Dario Amodei — CEO of Anthropic, one of the world's most powerful creators of artificial intelligence — has a blunt, scary warning for the U.S. government and all of us:
- AI could wipe out half of all entry-level white-collar jobs — and spike unemployment to 10-20% in the next one to five years, Amodei told us in an interview from his San Francisco office.
- Amodei said AI companies and government need to stop "sugar-coating" what's coming: the possible mass elimination of jobs across technology, finance, law, consulting and other white-collar professions, especially entry-level gigs.
Cross posted from the AI thread.
How do you invest in a world that can cut costs and maintain ( increase?) productivity but has more unemployment?
“When the White House is itself touting this as the largest tax increase in American history, I think that’s going to make the justices sit back and think the Constitution gives Congress, and Congress alone, the authority to levy duties, impose tariffs and to regulate foreign commerce”
Skeptical that this is how SCOTUS rules. I suspect the Unitary Executive Theory wins out in a 6-3 (or perhaps a perfunctory 5-4) decision.Linking this because a Duke law prof, who clerked for Gorsuch and therefore might have insight on how this justice may rule, weighs in:
Will the tariffs stand up to court review?
I am fearful, even though the Constitution clearly states that matters of the purse are solely within the legislative branch. Funny that these exclusively old white dudes talked about the power of the purse (per. The supremes should also show deference to this special court who ruled, but who knows.Skeptical that this is how SCOTUS rules. Prior rulings of this version of SCOTUS have shown that they are not big on deference.I am fearful, even though the Constitution clearly states that matters of the purse are solely within the legislative branch. Chevron to cut 200 in Permian BasinPaywall article in the NY Times has many US oil producers battening down the hatches...oil is pretty cheap now, and OPEC is likely to increase production at their Saturday meeting, which is causing a number of companies to scale back...of course counter to the wishes of the Saudis and others, this won't drive them out of the business, they';ll just jump back in when prices rise.
Sold BX this week for a 12.4% gain. Not sure if I mentioned SPY purchase that occurred the same week. Sold it for 20% gain. Neither were large positions.Bought AMZN and BX at the open. Not enough scale…

Might be totally wrong about this but at some point I think I had a winter coat with their label on it. I figured the Canadians would know how to make good winter coats.Epic history and great stores in their day
