Hurricane Milton

I agree that it is extremely unlikely to control the weather, on a large scale anyway.

....

Controlling the weather at all, or without anyone noticing the initial disturbance seems ... far fetched.

...and this is EXACTLY what someone would say if indeed they were secretly controlling the weather.

I rest my case.

Prayers to all those in the path of Milton.

My SIL lives in Ft Meyers and is staying put. She did the same for Ian. "I'm in a condo and my car is in a garage".

Well, that's fine. Enjoy your power free non airconditioned apartment for the next week or so while you can't drive anywhere.

Here in downtown Orlando, on the north side of Lake Eola, we're currently in a tornado warning until 5:15pm. Tornado sightings have been reported in areas to our southeast, with the band rotation moving towards us. We're getting steady rain, with intermittent gusts of wind.

Hey neighbor! Here in Belle Isle (south of downtown, just west of MCO) we're doing ok so far, still have power and not much worse than a regular thunderstorm. Should start to get interesting in the next few hours!

We still have power and internet service, so we're trying to enjoy a pleasant evening diversion with BritBox and a bottle of wine before Milton pulls the plug. Can only watch the continuous storm updates repeating the same information for so long. FWIW, the stream from the Lake Eola fountain is now more horizontal than vertical.

Love a good Downton Abbey binge. Good luck!

Hang in there, Stray!
I'm relieved to report that we made it through the passing storm safely. We were pleasantly surprised that we never lost power, although our TV cable service including internet access is down; fortunately, we're still able to get online using my Verizon mobile hotspot, so we can pick up the regular television broadcasts on our mobile devices and laptops through the Spectrum app, and we've got plenty of content stored on the DVR that remains playable for entertainment if the restoration of cable service takes a while. Our daughter and her husband who live nearby lost power, but they have enough stored from their solar panel system to last for up to three days, which I expect will be sufficient for power to be restored in this neighborhood near downtown Orlando. So all in all, we were exceedingly fortunate to experience nothing more than minor inconvenience from Milton. We hope that others who were not so lucky will be able to recover and resume their normal lives quickly. Thanks to all for the well wishes and prayers.

Roof intact, small limbs down, an old palm pushed over a few more degrees towards death. I have power, which shocks me (no pun intended). I usually lose it for several days after a storm like this. I'd guess they were Cat1 winds because a few of my neighbors have more damage to trees but it looks like everyone's house survived, which is the most important.
