Hurricane Helene

Been here for over 50 years and I’ve never seen a storm wrecking havoc on so much of our west coast. Just getting slammed from the storm surge, and God help the counties in the Big Bend as Helene comes ashore at 150+ mph. This will be a record breaking storm in terms of flooding. Once in a century stuff.

I'm seeing something squirrely on weather.com and other sites tonight. They are only forecasting 20mph winds for Atlanta. Huh? According to them, Raleigh should be winder than Atlanta.... And yes, I'm looking at the Atlanta in Georgia.

I still get wind alerts from work .they haven't taken me off yet.they are steady above 50 mph a few 60s .ofcourse that's 70 to 170 feet up in the air though. I feel for georgia and florida.

Well our luck ran out.
When the winds went west it pushed the Gulf water over our sea walls all afternoon and has flooded all of Downtown BG.
We have no power and about 3’ of water in my retail store and lots of damage. Worst flooding I’ve seen in 45 years here, my upstairs apt is fine.
Thankfully everything is insured and we should be good in the long run, but it’s going to be a long run.
Can’t imagine what we’re going to see from landfall in the big bend area, this storm is a beast.
Sorry to hear, stay safe.

We are in the northeast quadrant of the core right now. Can hear the trees coming down. Power gone.

Dawn cant get here soon enough.

Expected storm track from Georgia seems to have shifted to the east since late yesterday? Bodes better for us here in middle TN, but maybe worse for western NC? We were expecting relatively high winds starting around midnight, but so far just the very gentlest of susurrations here.

Yep. It steered to the East of Atlanta, which means Atlanta got only the trailing winds. Eastern GA appears to have gotten it worse than Atlanta.

Western and Central NC should get some significant weather, but probably will be greatly reduced after the hurricane travelling across land for 3 states.

I've never seen projections as bad as this storm. First it was the projected intensity which they missed by at least 30 MPH (when I made my prediction in the Presidential thread it was not even projected to reach Cat 3). Now the storm is far east and outside the cone from just 12 hours ago. My neighbor was supposed to fly into Charlotte early this morning and I told her she should be fine, the storm was going west of Atlanta. They've really messed this one up.

Was watching last night it shifted from atlanta to Athens so they said .
North West s.c. and n.c. going to see some weather.
I haven't even looked at Florida's damage yet.
It has to be catastrophic.
People trust those predictions to much.
It's mother nature .she does as she pleases.

I have a distant cousin in Inverness, right on the lake.

And I am supposed to be heading to Madeira Beach in the next couple of weeks.

Hope everything your way is better!
Inverness is far enough inland to have avoided the worst of it. Madeira Beach got hit fairly hard from what I understand.

Prayers for all my friends still dealing with this horrible storm. Hope you all are safe and sound.

Made it through without structural damage. Property is trashed, numerous huge trees down. Driveway partially blocked.

But safe.

Rain total 11.34 inches in about 30 hours. No power anywhere in the county, traffic lights down. Lots of trees through houses.

Two massive pines on the power line to my house, it may take a week to get power back.

But safe and, relative to those around me, fairly unscathed. Just a massive mess.
