IDK - In fast moving situations like this, I use Twitter(err, X) and reddit to get most of my news supplemented by message boards like PP and DBR. Citizen journalism at it's best.
How about hoping the "cats...stay away". (yes, I think I know what they mean...but then again, who knows)I'll just say there are some things in the home page article about this issue that I think are....misguided at best.
Glad to hear your family is safe, take care.Checking in from Asheville. I can't overstate how bad it is in places. My family is okay. Our neighbors are helping one another. We have no gas. No water. No electricity. I don't know where donations are being taken, but please please consider. There are many small towns that don't exist anymore. The devastation is insane.
I will check in as able.

Same on Mastodon/Fediverse.I’ve gotten plenty of news and coverage via Threads. A lot of info there without as many trolls.
Also, there is a good list of resources here for those looking to help:

Far more Starlink units are being supplied by private individuals than FEMA to this point.Yeah, I couldn’t even make it through the first Elon paragraph which seemed to be lauding him for “providing starlink units”.
The other way I’ve seen that characterized is that the units are procured through a FEMA contract which is akin to lauding Walmart for “providing” bottled water and other supplies.
Like everyone else here, glad to see that you're safe. FWIW, I can't even overstate the heartache seeing all of the coverage. As a native North Carolinian, Asheville and the surrounding area has always been like a haven to me. I think it's one of the most gorgeous parts of the planet and Asheville has been my favorite town. And now to read of all of the lives lost as well as the current lives in a such state of devastation... I don't know how to adequately express it.Checking in from Asheville.
