How the coldest spot on Earth is turning into a hot travel destination

So, shameless plug here...

I have written my first travel article for CNN.com. It is about the trip I took earlier this year to Antarctica and the impact the cruise industry is having on the White Continent. It includes several of the better pictures I took on the trip.

The International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO) has been tracking the number of tourists to visit the white continent since the early 1990s. Back then, around 7,000 people would visit every year.

The numbers have really exploded in the past half decade or so. In the winter of 2017, just under 44,000 tourists visited Antarctica. This year, that number surpassed 122,000 visitors. And they’re coming in such numbers because travel to the Earth’s coldest continent has never been easier — or more luxurious.

My biggest regret from my 2021 Antarctica trip was relying on my phone rather than having full set of photography gear. I’m going again this March (sorry about b-ball but only time a combined trip to South Georgia and the Falklands was offered next year) and will correct that problem.

Why did you pick the Seabourn line? Did you consider any other cruise lines?
They had a trip that seemed to match what we wanted in terms of length and itinerary and they certainly offered a luxurious experience. We also have family friends who swear by Seabourn and have done like 20+ cruises with them.

We got a pretty good deal too -- we booked our Janaury trip in October and got a bit of a "last minute" fare. We paid about $8k/person for a trip that would have been around $16k if we had booked it some other time.

My wife wants to do this .if it's below 70 I'm not a happy camper.i think I may have to bite the bullet on it though.
My friend owns la carolina lodge in Costa Rica. I'm wanting a trip there .so I'm hedging my bet that it will be more palatable for her if she gets what she wants 1st. That's the theory anyway .that looks really interesting
Though.

....and just like that look what pops up on my youtube?

Antartica building boom!
Phones are listening. I even cut my mic off.
It will bring up what we are discussing.
I made the mistake of showing my lovely wife Jason's picture from his vacation. Now she's researching it .it is also popping up on our feeds .iPhone and Android.
