Head Coach Jon Scheyer Appreciation Thread

Never said we should emulate Hurley. Expressing concern he will still share from us of top recruits.

We didn’t lose one game with a big lead - three this year and four in the last year and two of them were season-ending when we were the better team. I am not advocating to fire our coach - that’s a straw man you erected - but let’s not diminish our shortcomings either.
What is wrong with you? This is an appreciation thread. Read the dang room!

NABC Coach Of The Year!

I'm really surprised that for all of those saying (at least two years in a row now) that Scheyer won't get any awards "because he's at Duke", now that he's gotten one of the biggest that there is, we've got crickets. Bizarre.

Before you scold us too heavily, keep in mind that your new news for today was reported back on March 31, and the GoDuke announcement was shared in this thread by @DukieInKansas in post #183.

There's also a separate DBR thread about it. I would agree that Coach Scheyer's national award should have generated more responses there or here.

And you missed the point of what I was saying. Calling a championship a "turn around" is buying into the narrative the Scheyer has somehow been unsuccessful and needs protecting. The number of coaches more successful than Jon Scheyer over the course of his career as a head coach can be counted on one hand. He's clearly and obviously been top 5 in the industry. A "turn around" from that can only be bad.
simply put...a turn around suggests you are on the wrong path and are getting on the right one. Duke may need to tweek the Jib a bit, but the mainsail is set.

Jon working in total silence. Kids will come and go now. It’s the nature of the beast. Embrace it and be glad we have Jon leading Duke basketball. We are very lucky to have him. I hope when the NBA comes calling, he loves Duke as much as Duke loves him. Can’t wait to see what the 26/27 roster looks like.

With annual roster turnover, the head coach is increasingly the main identity for a program. I am fine with this, given our fantastic leadership.
