In way future scheduling info Duke will play Arizona and Kansas will play Indiana at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in November 2027. This is a precursor to the Final Four in Vegas in 2028. I suppose the Champions Classic will continue but I don’t know.

So, Nov 12 in Vegas and then Nov 18 in MSG... the die-hard traveling Duke fans are gonna rack up those frequent flier miles!

FWIW, the 12th is a Wednesday and the 18th is a Tuesday so if you are a working man/woman you will need to put in vacation requests to make this games.

Mercifully, there's 2 years between those 2 games that should help with the PTO.

Oh snap... need to learn to read all the dates on the announcement.

The real question (as @scottdude8 and I discussed on the recent DBR Pod) is whether the Hall of Fame series is going to be another game we add to the schedule or if it's replacing the Champions Classic. The Classic is only guaranteed through next year, and there have been questions on whether it is extended or otherwise revamped (thus, the rumor that we will see a home-and-home with Kansas and are "open" to one occurring with UConn). We'll see if this is just us hedging or us finding a way to add another high profile non-conference game to our schedule.

Personally, I think the Champions Classic has been great for Duke and the other participants (especially when it was the opening night of the season) -- purely from a brand/publicity standpoint, all four of Duke/KU/UK and Michigan St. would be nuts not to continue it.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of MSU especially once Izzo retires, which can't be far off. We've just played them so many times and it feels like the Champions Classic could use a little new energy anyway. Replace them with Gonzaga? UConn?

Sure - flipping in U.Conn for Mich St. would be great and probably would add some juice (and, actually, make it more of a "Champions" event).

I mean, if we are gonna drop Mich State, why are we keeping Kentucky? It has been a decade since they made a Final Four and they have won a grand total of 1 NCAA tourney game in the past 5 years. I get that they have a lot of tradition and that Cal was bringing in lottery picks left and right, but Cal is gone and if tradition matters then why isn't UCLA in the Classic?

Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga, and UConn should be the 4 teams. Those are Champions.

Gonzaga? When did they become champions, other than of their sorry conference? Past 5 years is far too short a window. It should be Duke, UConn, Kentucky and UNCheats.

Villanova has won two titles since Duke's last title. And UNC has one won and been in another final. Be careful what you wish for...

It won't be UNC and Duke. They won't have both in the same early season event. So, if Duke sticks around in the Champions Classic, my bet is they revamp it with some new teams to give it a boost of energy. I would think Sparty goes and UConn comes in. Gonzaga would be an option, but if the thought is how much longer Izzo will be in East Lansing, you have to consider Mark Few is on a similar track in Spokane. The Champions Classic wasn't just about the teams...the coaches provided the event with some energy as well. It will be interesting to see if Mark Pope will be able to "add" to this event in that manner.

My dream series is "The Battle for the Garden". Duke calls MSG "Cameron North", UConn calls MSG "Storrs South". Playing them every year at MSG, complete with boxing title belts that need to be handed over at the start of the game, and then maniacally claimed at the final buzzer by the winner, ala the Victory Bell, would be EPIC!!!!

I think UConn for Sparty would be a very logical trade

I'm a big fan of the Champions Classic and have gone each time it has been in Chicago (and once at MSG). It has a Final Four-like atmosphere, with a lot of fan engagement and alums from each program, big-name recruits and other prominent athletes/celebrities often in attendance as well. The games are usually very competitive as well. And it doesn't hurt that they have a big ESPN presence there with the CFB playoff update between games either.

I wouldn't mind adding another such event but wouldn't want to trade the Champions Classic for it unless the latter goes away on its own.

Under the current TV contract, I think both are Fox instead of ABC/ESPN. It's all going to depend on where the TV contracts stand.

Here's another note about Duke's future schedule: The Champions Classic was extended through November 2028.
Duke will travel down the Hudson River in November to play Kansas at Madison Square Garden next fall. Future locations are TBD.

This is great news. Sounds like the Hall of Fame Classic is a supplement to our schedule rather than a replacement for the Champions Classic. I think the Champions Classic has been a great event that we should endeavor to maintain... yes, having Sparty in there diminishes things a bit, but that seems a fair trade to annoy UNC fans every year by the fact that we get to participate in this "brand boosting" event and they don't ;)

Interesting. So they play at West Point Nov. 11 then MSG on Nov. 18. If they need a place to crash in between my couch is available in exchange for basketball lessons for my kids. I wonder if they will do any more NYC-area games or this covers it.

I’d offer as well since I live across the river and up about 15 miles from West Point, but I don’t have room for the whole team.
