Duke opens as a 14 points favorite. Discuss the game here.

Random statistic: MTSU ranks dead last (133/133) in Passing Defense giving up 384 yards per game.

Sagarin has them as the 5th worst FCS team in the land... the fact that Duke is only a 14 point favorite is kinda telling for the season we have had so far.

Keep an eye out for tight end Holden Willis, maybe the best TE in Conference USA.

FCS? or FBS? I wouldn't think Duke would schedule two FCS schools in a year. I know they did in 2009 but havent since

A quick look at MTSU reveals the following: They are averaging 18.67 ppg and allowing 42 ppg.
They are only averaging 68 ypg on the ground and are allowing 158.3 ypg.
They have scored 3 rushing TDs and given up 7 rushing TDs.
They average over 305 ypg through the air and allow 384 ypg.
Their QB is 69-106 with 3 INTs and 4 TDs and they have given up 10 TDs through the air.

The punter have a net average of 37.44 and they are 2-2 on FGA.
The Blue Raiders are averaging 65.33 ypg in penalties.
TOP for MTSU is 31:31 and 28:29 for their opponents.
On third down, they are 17-39 while their opponents are 19-32.
On fourth down, they are 4-9 and have allowed 3-6.
They have fumbled twice, losing one.

Sacks: 7-48 yards and the opposition: 6-34.
In the Red Zone: they are 6-10 with 4 TDs and the opposition is 16-17 with 14 TDs.
Their leading rushers are Credle (73 ypg and 1 TD), Wilkins, and Peasant.
Their leading receivers are Kelly (14 catches, 95 ypg, and 3 TDs and All-Conference TE Willis (12 catches and 66 ypg).
Leading tacklers are Harris, Howse, Thompson, and Curtis.
They beat Tennessee Tech and lost to Western Kentucky and Ole Miss.

Hopefully, we can take advantage of some of the opportunities that seem to be available, we can stay healthy, and get some people healthy for our next home game. LGD!

FWIW, they pretty much did as well (poorly?) as Wake against Ole Miss if you adjust for home vs away locations. Of course it’s hard to compare blowouts…

Ole Miss can warp a lot of stats on both sides of the ball. Their wins were 76-0 (Furman), 52-3 (MTSU) and 40-6 (@ Wake).

Just to show you that one of us read your outstanding review, I have a question. Paragraph 1, they average 68 ypg on the ground but paragraph 3, Credle averages 73 ypg. Did he only play one game, or do all their other runners average negative yards?

Thanks. My mistake. His average is 23 ypg for a net of 69 yards and an average of 2.6 ypc with a longest run of 11 yds.

My bad... FBS. Duuuuuh! I'm an idiot.

They are the 5th worst FBS team in college football. Plenty of worse FCS programs this season.

As a half full view, the offense has looked really good from time to time. Exhibit 1 is obviously Northwestern, three plays and two touchdowns. I can’t remember any Duke offense in my life time that could do that. The first quarter of UConn game we moved the ball effectively. The last quarter of Northwestern and UConn game we moved the ball well. The offensive line has been better than most expected. The defense has been good. All of this has happened with Duke having lesser talent than last year. When the offense hits a couple of those long throws a game we will think much differently about the prospects for this season. This game should be a good tuneup for the UNC game. Please just no new injuries.

No shame in MTSU getting whomped by Ole Miss, but being hammered by WKU is not a great look. Having said that MTSU does have a capable QB, and I assume Manny is going to be blitzing him as much as possible. UCONN didn't look like a strong team coming into the Duke game (not much can be gleaned from beating Merrimack) but they seized the momentum in the third quarter....MTSU presents Duke with a great opportunity to get the offense going...
