FB: Duke 26, Northwestern 20 (2OT)

Wow. What a crazy win! I’ll take it though. Our defense was stellar. And our offense (passing game) came alive just enough in the 4th and OT to pull it out.

But I think our injuries tonight (Jaquez Moore and Hasley) are really going to hurt. And we were already without Nick Morris.

We tried to give the game away so many times (we’re so much more talented than they are), then NW decided to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on the third down play in double OT by not handing to Porter. Unreal. This is awesome

Yes, unfortunately I think you're right about Moore and Hasley. Let's hope the backups can provide valuable minutes.

Wow. What a game. At times it was a disaster, but somehow we pulled it out. So many mistakes, so many dropped balls, and yet we won anyway.

Among the weirdness, there were some heroes. Jordan Moore put the team on his back. Alex Howard had a massive 14 tackles and 2.5 TFL to help a banged up LB unit. And how about Eli Pancol? 2 catches, 2 TDs. That works!

Credit to Maalik for grinding through and finding something late. Man, he can really zip them in there. I still have hope that he can develop better chemistry with his WRs. It's not as natural as having Riley out there, but the arm talent is real.

One other point. Duke has now beaten Northwestern 6 times in a row, with no future games scheduled in the series.

Arm talent is real. I think the receivers are still adjusting to his unorthodox 3/4 arm throw. And the speed of his throws causes a few just off the fingertips. Overall, he does better (and we do better) when throwing the ball.
This team should pass 80-90% of the plays. We do much better with that ratio.

Silver lining? Hopefully Moore and Hasley come back soon. But until then, next man stepping up strengthens the depth of the team. GO DUKE!!!

I'm very glad I witnessed a victory in person rather than defeat! Makes the sometimes frustrating plays and miscues worth it. More to come from a first-hand report (mostly of the stadium/atmosphere), but here's a pic of Ozzie Nicholas smiling as the team walks to the locker room following the victory -- through a path that blocked Northwestern fans from exiting so they had to witness the jubilation of the Duke team and fans instead!

I know for a fact that I wasn't the only person to say (out loud or on a keyboard) that "We're going to lose". Literally.

I know for a fact that I'm not the only one thrilled to be wrong.

Only two games into the Diaz Days, and I'm hooked. This is what sports is all about. Thrill of something, agony of something, but thankfully the thrill is riding high right now. LGD!

Someone else said it. Diaz does have great energy on the sidelines. That's contagious. Shows with our defense.

I think if we spread the field and throw on 80% of our snaps, the offense has the potential to be pretty good. And it will open up the run game. We can't be a run first offense.

I agree with this. Pass first... Murphy has shown that he can complete the short and long passes. It will open up the run game. It showed in the 4th quarter and OT. And... Murphy and the team can get into that "rhythm".
