DWBB: Summer of 2025

USA 134, South Korea 53 (recap, box score, highlights, full replay)

The 2025 USA Women’s U19 National Team opened their FIBA U19 World Cup campaign against Korea on Saturday, never trailing in the game and picking up a 134-53 victory...

The Americans’ 134 points broke the U19 scoring record in a single game. The record was previously 129 points, set in both 2021 vs. Taiwan and 2005 vs. South Korea.

Duke WBB put up some Emilee Skinner stats:

She played about 17 minutes off the bench, first entering the game about halfway through the 1st quarter. She shot 5-of-8 from the field, 1-of-1 from outside.

The red, white and blue will be back at it in group play on Sunday vs. Hungary at 2:15 p.m. ET...

Here's the FIBA livestream for Sunday's game. It's also embedded below.

79-49. Hungary played some defense, unlike South Korea. Emilee played less than 10 minutes for 4 points, 3 rebounds, 0 assists, and 3 steals. Target Harpring was the leading scorer with 15. No Hungarian player scored more than 7 points.

USA 79, Hungary 49 (recap, box score, highlights, full replay)

The U.S. fully broke away from Hungary in the final period, owning a 73-49 lead when Hungary called a timeout with 2:41 left. Their defense was ferocious, allowing just six points in the quarter.

[Kate] Harpring continued her strong shooting in the fourth period, finishing the game as the game’s highest scorer with 15 points. The Americans had five different players score in double digits as they closed out the victory.

Emilee played less than 10 minutes for 4 points, 3 rebounds, 0 assists, and 3 steals.

Emilee Skinner first entered the game at about 1 minute into the 2nd quarter. (Kate Harpring went out and Skinner went in, which had to be confusing for the opponent.) She shot 2-of-5 from the field, all 2-pointers, and committed 1 turnover.

The U.S. will have a day off on Monday before capping group play against Israel on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET.

Here's the FIBA livestream for Tuesday morning's game.

The U.S. will have a day off on Monday before capping group play against Israel on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET.

USA 114, Israel 40 (recap, box score, highlights, full replay)

In their final group play matchup at the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup, the U.S. faced Israel for the first time in the competition’s history, taking a 114-40 win. The USA are now set to face China on Wednesday in the Round of 16...

The U.S. opened a 50-point lead with 4:17 left in the third quarter after a scoop and score by Hall. Their run reached a tally of 20-0 before a 3-pointer from Israel ended the surge. Emilee Skinner opened a 60-point lead at 86-26 on an and-1 layup with 2:15 left in the third period...

The fourth quarter was smooth sailing for the Americans, eventually taking a massive 74-point win in their final group play game. [Jazzy] Davidson ended the matchup as the team’s highest scorer with 24 points. Her playmaking skills were on display all game long, notching eight assists. [Saniyah] Hall ended the game with 20 points, four rebounds and seven steals.

Skinner first entered the game with 1:21 left in the 1st quarter. She had 8 points on 4-of-6 shooting, missing her lone 3-pointer. She added 1 rebound, 2 assists, and 3 steals.

The announcer couldn’t figure out who was who between, Skinner, Harpring and Greenway.

USA head coach Teri Moren might be leaning into this. In a striking coincidence, the box score shows that Skinner, Kate Harpring, and Maddyn Greenway each played 16:33 off the bench. And the play-by-play explains why: they always entered and exited the game together. Also, I don't think Greenway looks at all like Skinner or Harpring.

Today's games are still being played, so tomorrow's game against China does not have a tip-off time yet.

Update! Team USA plays China in the knockout stage Wednesday at 8:30am ET. Watch the FIBA livestream, also embedded below.

122-57. Emilee with 4 points (all FTs, she only attempted 2 shots from the field), 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. France up next in the quarters on Friday.
The coach moved away from the total line-change approach she used in the group stage games, partly because of early foul trouble to a couple of players. But that seemed to benefit Emilee, who showed good court vision and rebounding, even if she didn't shoot much. She seemed to fit within the offense better with a different mix of teammates, so I thought this game was interesting to watch in that respect, even though it was a complete blowout after the first quarter.

USA 122, China 57 (recap, box score, highlights, full replay)

After winning Group A with a flawless 3-0 record, the Americans took to the knockout stages at the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup on Wednesday, defeating China 122-57 in the Round of 16...

[Addison] Bjorn had her standout game of the tournament, with 11 points and seven rebounds. She was extremely efficient, taking just four shots. [Sienna] Betts added another double-double, tallying 21 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 10-of-17 from the field. [Kate] Harpring was a jack-of-all-trades with 15 points, six rebounds and seven assists.

FiBA U19 Women’s Quarterfinals, USA v. France, currently at halftime. The USA leads 38-32. Emilee Skinner has not entered the game. Second half just beginning. Stream available on YouTube.

Skinner played nearly 14 minutes in the second half and played very well. She badly missed both of her three-point attempts, but looked very good on the drive. She ended up with 1 turnover against 0 assists, but the latter was very much about her teammates. Skinner got them the ball in great position at least three times, but they missed every attempt. Skinner was used as a forward on defense, which I think was a very smart coaching move. Skinner seems to be a step slow with lateral movement, and I saw her get blown by a couple of times in earlier games, but she's quite capable of banging with a bigger player and held her own physically. Her quick hands are good in that situation, too, and while she was only credited with one steal, she also got a number of deflections where the USA did not get a favorable bounce out of it. She was in the game during crunch time late in the fourth when the game was still very much in doubt.

I wouldn't call it a great game for Skinner, but it was definitely solid. And the USA won and will advance, increasing their winning streak at the event to 26 games, breaking the tie with their old record.

ETA: Kara Lawson was in attendance, as well, though obviously not in a coaching role for this game.
