Are they allowed to have both Hidalgo and Miles on the same court?

That's going to be one of head coach Kara Lawson's challenges now. Both were named to the 12-player Women's AmeriCup Team.

Gee, Hidalgo is the only one not smiling.

Raegan over Reigan

Ok Emilee, recruit Kate. Geez, they're almost twins! Confuse the heck out of opposing defenses for 3 years.

Okay, so to keep things clear, there are two Team USA women's events with Duke connections to follow in this thread this summer. Fortunately, the events don't overlap.

FIBA Women's AmeriCup 2025 in Chile (June 28-July 6) -- Kara Lawson is head coach

FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup 2025 in Czechia (July 12-20) -- Emilee Skinner is on the player roster

Coach Lawson got a win in her team's debut on Saturday. Unlike many FIBA events, it doesn't look like this one has a free livestream -- you'd have to subscribe to something called Courtside 1891 -- so no full replays.

USA 108, Chile 47 (recap, box score, highlights, presser)

Raegan Beers led the United States in scoring with 22 points, while Joyce Edwards notched 19 points. Mikayla Blakes, Hannah Hidalgo and Gianna Kneepkens also scored in double digits. Beers led the team with 7 rebounds and Olivia Miles led the team with 7 assists...

“I thought it was a complete team effort,” USA head coach Kara Lawson said. “One of the strengths of our team is our depth. We feel like players one through 12 can all impact the game on both ends...”

“I thought offensively we executed well,” Lawson said. “We got a lot of different players in double figures. Then I thought defensively, in the fourth quarter specifically, to hold them to two points and stay locked in with the margin what it was, I’m really proud of the focus of the group.”

Coach Lawson and Team USA picked up their second win Sunday night.

USA 80, Colombia 43 (recap, box score, highlights, presser)

The United States continued their hot start at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, handling Colombia 80-43 on Sunday night in Santiago, Chile. The Americans used strong first-half defense to generate runs and build a commanding lead at the halftime break, taking the advantage all the way to the final buzzer.

Olivia Miles stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, 8 rebounds and a team-high 8 assists. Leading the scoring were Mikayla Blakes and Joyce Edwards with 15 and 13 points, respectively, while Edwards and Raegan Beers pulled down 9 boards each...

“I thought the first quarter was our best quarter,” USA head coach Kara Lawson said. “I thought we started with great purpose and great intensity. You know, that group got us off to a really good start on both ends.”

USA Basketball has an article and video today about the reunion of AmeriCup head coach Kara Lawson and assistant coach DeLisha Milton-Jones (who is the head coach at Old Dominion). The two won gold as Team USA players in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Coach Lawson and Team USA are now 3-0 in AmeriCup play.

USA 80, Puerto Rico 62 (recap, box score, highlights, presser)

Gianna Kneepkens led the U.S. with 14 points on 4-of-5 (80%) shooting from 3-point range.. Hannah Hidalgo was also in double figures with 10 points and Olivia Miles once again had an all-around performance — notching 9 points and team highs of 8 assists and 7 rebounds.

“I was proud of the response more than anything,” USA head coach Kara Lawson said. “We were tested. We didn’t play our best in the first 20 minutes and our response in the second half was really good.”

Note that former Blue Devil Sofia Roma (Class of 2019, transferred from Wagner) is playing on the Puerto Rico team in the Americup. goDuke.com included her in the press release about the tournament a couple of days ago.

Sofia Roma was scoreless in 13 minutes off the bench for Puerto Rico, missing her only attempted shot, a 3-pointer. She did have 2 rebounds.

USA 104, Mexico 48 (recap, box score, highlights, presser)

The United States made quick work of Mexico in their final game of group play at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Santiago, Chile. After making big runs in the first two quarters, the Americans wore down Mexico to cruise to a 104-48 win, moving to 4-0 and winning Group B...

Gianna Kneepkens led the USA in scoring for a second straight game, scoring 15 second-half points on her way to 20 in the game. Olivia Miles set a USA record for the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup with 10 assists, while tying Raegan Beers and Grace VanSlooten for the team-high with 6 rebounds...

“I told the team, I’m really proud of their focus and their effort in all four pool play games,” USA head coach Kara Lawson said. “We’re very excited to finish the pool number one, finish the group as the number one seed going into the medal round.”

FIBA just posted the quarterfinal matchups that will take place on Friday. Team USA will face the Dominican Republic.
