Duke Men's Lax 2025

If tOSU loses today to MD, it will be very easy. They put ND at tOSU to avoid air travel for both of them. Then Duke, Syr, and the the cheats can all get home games.
for sure...do I have to root for Merlin, though? Like rooting for a toothache...today we are all Twerps!

#1 RPI Terps lose to #5 Ohio State. That surely means #6 Duke can’t pass them. Maybe they’ll pass #4 Penn State?

Ivy final is today - #2 RPI Princeton vs. #3 RPI Cornell.

No surprises in A-10 (#8 Richmond) or Big East (#15 Georgetown).

Stunner in the Patriot - Colgate ousts #12 Army in semis and will face #13 BU in final.

Duke should be #6 or #7 depending on what happens today. There isn't a good argument to put Duke ahead of PSU.

It's hard to get around the Duke-Richmond rematch and a ACC rematch. You can ship Richmond to Penn State if you want. You can also make UNC play @Richmond, which would make some of us laugh, but that means ND has to fly to PSU or Duke. I'm going with ND-UNC since they only played once and are the lowest ranked ACC teams.

We’re pretty limited offensively, unfortunately. Even the little things like stick work are suspect.

Jamieson and close defense played well enough to win. But defense never seemed to get a break,…reason: Faceoffs—atrociously bad. Ground balls—very, very bad. Clearing is always an adventure.

End of game was coached and executed very, very well….almost. Malever made a terrific play getting solid control of Johnston’s bounce pass, but missed an open shot to tie that he would make 90% of the time. A bang-bang play that was just off.

So, excepting the debacle vs Denver, Duke has been in every game. Without naming names (esp of transfers), the 2d midfield unit is not up to par…passing was not good, and shot selection led to sadly consistent unforced TOs or too many 1 and dones.

If we get a home game, it will likely be against Richmond. We can beat them—but twice? Got to be better in faceoffs, groundballs, and find another Delgado for the 2d middle offense.

I can't say Duke deserved to win this game. Congrats to Syracuse. What this probably means:

Duke gets the #7 seed since it's still #7 in the RPI with the loss. I can't justify 2 of Richmond (0-1 v. Duke), UNC (1-1 v. Duke), and ND (1-0 v. Duke) to get to a home game over Duke, but I'm open to serious arguments. The opponent is probably Richmond, Georgetown, or Towson, but I'm guessing not UNC (2 games) or Harvard/Army (too many airplanes unless you ship them to ND).

The #7 seed likely puts Duke/TBD winner in Annapolis to play MD/TBD on Sunday instead of Hofstra to play an Ivy. Given the strong LI contingent in Duke recruiting, I'm sure they are a little disappointed.

So I am hoping Friday was not just an out-of-body experience, because this team looked much more like the one we have seen all year. Excellent defense, come-and-go offense, problematic clearing.

Here is my question: In our first game against Syracuse, Engelke was 2-6 on faceoffs, McCarthy was 0-2, and Girard was 8-14. today Engelke was 2-8, McCarthy was 0-4, and Girard was 4-8. So why did Girard take only 40% of the faceoffs? Is there something I am missing?
