Duke football, future schedules

Can’t recall whether this has been posted previously. I did a cursory search, nothing more. If already posted, my apologies.

If not, a few facts:

1. H+H with Illinois and Tulane in ‘25/‘26.
2. H+H with TCU in ‘28/‘29.
3. More UConn, though not every season.
4. Looking for 12th opponent for ‘25.
5. 7 home games in ‘26.

One game I’m looking forward to: Duke @ Cal next fall. Unless school or work prevent it, the cato family will be in attendance. I’m guessing a lot of California Dukies will be there.

A solid schedule next year. Since we now play the other 3 NC schools yearly, only 5 variables in ACC. Clemson, GaT, Syracuse may be tough and UVA, Cal weaker. But with transfer portal, who the heck knows anymore.

Opponent #12 is almost always going to be a FCS/1-AA team under the current system along with most of the remaining blanks from 2027-2030. It doesn't turn out well when you overschedule in football. (Duke 1996, 2019, etc.)

There isn't a good way to do it other than trying to trade someone like KS for MTSU on a home-home basis. Most football schools don't want to play Duke outside of a bowl game. Football scheduling correlates very heavily with stadium capacity and TV. It pretty much limits Duke to the neutral site games in Atlanta (like AL 2019) and Charlotte (NCSU this year).

The ACC has a long way to go to catch up with the SEC and ND/Big 10 playoff teams. I think that's going to show up pretty clearly when the ACC goes 0-1 or 0-2 by lopsided losses.

Is it time to beef up those schedules a bit?
Both Illinois and Tulane are top 25 with 9 wins each this season and TCU is historically a solid team with 8 wins this past season playing in the big 12. Maybe you're being sarcastic though .... But that schedule to me looks mighty tough compared to where it's been, and, of course, we can't choose the conference schedule.

I agree with comments above that football kinda disincentivizes scheduling tough games early season for most teams. Teams would rather rack up wins although it can be a good tiebreaker and is good for the game so some teams are still doing those high quality early season matchups.

I hope a lot of you come out West to see the Bears and Devils play. Berkeley in September/October is an absolutely wonderful time of year. The stadium is right on campus, top of the hill, with great views of the Bay. Fantastic experience I hope many of you will enjoy.

Contrary to what the media portrays, the State of California is actually doing pretty well. My friends who came out to see the Wolfpack game this past October all asked, "Hey, when are we going to see some homeless?"

Love visiting Berkeley, hope to make the 3000 mile trip....love having Cal and Stanford in the league.

Did they get rid of Tightwad Hill when they renovated the stadium? Asking for a friend.

I should be there. If somebody can help me get it set up, I can host a tailgate party and cook for a bunch of forum members.

Hoops team should also be traveling out here next year to play Stanford and Cal, but those will be tough tickets to get.

Is that a joke or something? California has a terrible and heartbreaking homelessness problem and nowhere is it worse than San Francisco. Berkeley is not far behind.

Dude, relax. Yes, it was a joke meant to dispel the myth that homelessness is all over the State, which in turn has severely reduced the number of tourists and conventions visiting the area. The problem of homelessness itself is no joke, but the way it is portrayed leaves many of my Southern friends thinking it is absolutely everywhere in California, which is not the case. Yes, the Tenderloin in San Francisco and Skid Row in LA are really bad off. Parts of Berkeley have it bad. But UC Berkeley is a beautiful campus, and the neighborhood around it is gorgeous, and largely free of homelessness.

So, when my Southern friends visit the area, they often wonder why they are not seeing the vast homeless population that many media outlets have led them to believe is ubiquitous.

Having said all that, I apologize for incorporating the subject into what should be a happy thread meant to encourage people to visit. I thought twice about the words I was typing because I knew someone would get uptight. My mistake.

yes, I have visited SF many times and have friends there (some of whom play on this board) and the problem, as real as it is, has been sensationalized to a great extent....

I feel like this is a bio or chemistry extra credit question. On the day that the first founding member of the ACC played a game on the Pacific Coast, how many molecules of H2O in a cubic cm of water drawn from the nearby bay/ocean were at one point in the territorial waters of the US off the states of VA, NC, SC and GA?

At least one or two. (I’m way too Trinity College to actually try.)
