Duke Football 2025

Darian Mensah is up there, but he's reportedly not even the highest paid ACC quarterback.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck, who led the Bulldogs to the College Football Playoff quarterfinals where the team lost to Notre Dame, announced Friday he has committed to Miami, just one day after he entered the transfer portal.

Now his agents at ESM tell Front Office Sports Beck has secured close to $10 million in combined NIL (name, image, and likeness) deals in the past 12 months from a combination of his brand deals and money from the Miami NIL collective Canes Connection...

A different source close to Beck says that the $4 million figure widely reported Friday as coming from the Canes Connection is inaccurate and that the price tag is higher. Canes Connection declined to comment...

If Beck is getting more than $4 million from the Canes Connection, it would make him the highest-paid player in college football. Darian Mensah is reportedly getting $8 million over two years to transfer to Duke from Tulane, and John Mateer is reportedly getting a similar deal to transfer from Washington State to Oklahoma.
The Mensah contract thing was largely blather from his agent. He's getting a lot of money, but not that much, and much is based on whether he sticks around for another year.

Kudos to Coach Prime for this thought.

"I would actually like to play the spring game against another team, in the spring. That's what I'm trying to do right now," Sanders said Monday after announcing that the Buffaloes' spring game at Folsom Field on April 19 will be televised (ESPN2, 4:30 p.m. ET).

"I would like to style it like the pros. I'd like to go against someone [in practice] for a few days, and then you have the spring game. I think the public would be satisfied with that tremendously. I think it's a tremendous idea. I've told those personnel, who should understand that, that it's a tremendous idea."

It didn't take long for Sanders to find an interested party. Syracuse head coach Fran Brown on Monday posted to social media platform X, offering for the Orange to "come to Boulder for 3 days."

Only problem is, it's against NCAA rules, but being the NCAA, it's only a matter of time before rules are tossed to the wayside.

It's always nice to be on someone's radar. In this case, it's Max Olson's, in an article looking at next year's CFP possibilities.
Duke is another off-the-radar team, which offseason moves suggested it's serious about chasing a conference title in 2025. After an impressive nine-win debut season, Manny Diaz and his coaching staff made a massive bet on Tulane transfer QB Darian Mensah, making the rising redshirt sophomore one of the highest-paid passers in the country. He's joining a squad with a dozen returning starters, including four of five starting offensive linemen and All-ACC defensive backs Chandler Rivers and Terry Moore. If Mensah and the rest of their portal additions can pay off, the Blue Devils could have the goods to be a real factor in the ACC race.

Our football season opener against Elon has been moved from Saturday August 30, to Thursday night August 28th.

My wife is going to be thrilled. Labor Day is the anniversary of our first date (we took 13 years after to get married, so it's important, ha!) and often I'm busy with a tailgate. Now she'll get the weekend devoted to her instead of sharing it with football. <3

PS, she's the only one that will be happy about this. A guaranteed blowout on a Thursday night ensures that there will be about 337 people in the stands.

A lot of people try to sneak in one last beach trip due to the holiday. The argument against doing this is conflicts with local high school games that move up Friday nights for the same reason. The staff can go recruit in Nebraska if they need to on Friday.

I think this is great. Should mean national TV with very little competition, and an extra two days to prepare for Illinois. Attendance was always going to be weak for this game.

Anyone hearing about arrangements, hotels or parties for the Tulane game? My wife and I definitely are making that a mini vacation.

We had 2 weeknight games in 2023 and 3 in 2024 (though one of those was on the road). I was kind of looking forward to having Saturday games this year, though I suppose one deviation isn't bad. Thursday night does cramp the tailgating a bit but at least it won't be so hot.

I do hope we get a better spread of game times this year. We've only had one noon home kick in the last two years and last year 5 out of 6 home games were 6:00pm or later.

yes, ironically (after complaining about hot Sept. noon games for years) I'd like to see some earlier game times, e.g. 3:30 is nice, even noon is OK...not knowing game times until 12 or 13 days before kickoff is tough on those flying in, trying to figure out flight times....
