Duke Football 2025

IMO all phrasing propriety was defenestrated when they came up with that name for the game with the bean bags and plywood boards and a hole which drunks play before football games. Some years ago we were having an outdoor dinner with a friend in her eighties who grew up in Brooklyn, she saw people playing said game, and asked what it was called. Categorically refused to believe me when I told her, she had to look it up on her phone, then she howled with great delight.
Yes, it is played differently in Brooklyn.

I'm not going to dredge up the '24 thread, but ESPN put out their "Top 100" games of the year. Duke was in two of them, thankfully both victorious.

91. Sept. 28: Duke 21, North Carolina 20
After a 70-50 loss to James Madison, it was fair to guess that UNC would either play its best or worst game in response. The Tar Heels did both. First, they bolted to a 20-0 lead. Then they allowed Duke to charge back and take a 21-20 lead with 5:42 remaining. Tre Freeman's interception sealed a ferocious comeback win for Duke.

50. Nov. 30: Duke 23, Wake Forest 17 (Includes a video clip of the Maalik to Moore walk-off TD)

And for those curious, the winner is...

1. Oct. 5: Vanderbilt 40, No. 1 Alabama 35

I love me some rodeo. I tried roping a calf at my neighbor's corral but never could get it done. It is harder than it looks. Good times.

Please excuse my ignorance, as I don’t follow football recruiting closely. Is the football recruiting over for the year? I seem to recall that in past recruiting seasons, Duke’s classes rate higher early in the season than at the end of the recruiting season. Possibly due to signing a high number of 2 or 3 stars early, while the “powerhouses” tend to sign their 4 or 5 star players later, due to the higher rated players waiting to find out their best option$.
Thankfully I remembered your post. I think this has your answer.
In just a mere few days, the next biggest recruiting day on the college football calendar will take place: National Signing Day.

Many, if not all, of the top 100 prospects in the 2025 recruiting class have already signed with their respective programs back in December during the three-day early signing period, which has allowed some to already join their new teams on campus for spring practices.

Given the now very liberal transfer rules, how binding is signing day? Could a recruit "sign" on signing day and then "transfer" a week later without any penalty. I know this isn't too likely to happen, but we are now in the wild west of recruiting.

Interesting that Nebraska's coach has said they're not going to do a spring game this year because it's just an opportunity for other schools to scout and then poach their players since the transfer portal opens a couple weeks later. Interesting times we're in .... Glad Duke isn't doing that yet.
Nebraska may be in a position to do that, but most schools aren't. The Spring game is all about building excitement AND GETTING BUTTS IN THE SEATS. Sell those season tickets, Manny! Get those sponsors, Nina!

No team is going to scout The Cornhusker's scrimmage and learn how to beat them. No team is going to see their game and all of a sudden realize Player A needs to be stolen away. That's a ridiculous excuse.

I hear ya. Sounds like the Nebraska coach wants something for fans in the spring to build excitement, but just not a full scrimmage. 6 players entered the portal one week after their spring game last year.

Here's the quote: “I dealt with a lot of people offering our players a lot of opportunities after [the spring game],” Rhule said. “To go out and bring in a bunch of new players and showcase them for all the other schools to watch doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.” "Honestly, to me, it’s about protecting the roster and protecting through that portal period.”

I forgot that Matt Rhule was the Nebraska coach. From this Panther's fan, "suck it up, buttercup".
