Duke Football 2025 — the Offseason Thread

ESPN has an article up highlighting the top playmakers for next year. Our Chandler Rivers makes the list.

Why he's here: One of several Duke players to shine under first-year coach Manny Diaz in 2024, Rivers returns for his final season in Durham. He earned third-team AP All-America honors last fall, emerging as one of the nation's top cover corners.

QB commit (for 2026) Terry Walker has been chosen for the Elite All Star Event, which features the best 20 QBs in that class...Manny and his staff identified Terry early, let's hope we can fend off the inevitable poachers...he does seem sold on Duke...

Sort of an FYI thing when it's a player Duke doesn't get. Dushawn London reports that 2026 two-sport recruit Nasir Rankin picked Illinois over Duke, Nebraska, UNC, and USC.

Illinois has secured a major in-state commitment from dual-sport standout Nasir Rankin, a 5-foot-11 athlete out of Chicago's Morgan Park High School...

As a junior in 2024, Rankin caught 40 passes for 991 yards and 12 touchdowns on 24.8 yards per reception in 12 games. He also rushed 19 times for 110 yards and one score, good for 5.8 yards per carry. Rankin got snaps in all three phases...

The other big part of his commitment to Illinois was his ability to join the basketball program. Brad Underwood and the staff expressed that he will be able to play his game and earn playing time.

I renewed football tickets for myself and a friend earlier today. He can't walk unassisted easily, so I asked for handicap seats in general admission.

Since Duke turned most of the available handicap general admission seats into part of the Dollar Shave Club Devils Deck, that was a no-go. There were options that we knew about, but even the best one included a visit to the ADA window inside the confines of Wally Wade. That adds at least 10 minutes to the Box Office Experience, and once took over 30.

I ended up with reserved handicap tickets on the 30-yard line, sunny side. But only after I convinced the young lady on the phone that I was not dead yet, wanted to go for a walk, and was happy. Yep, they had me down as deceased!

I told my wife that if she really wanted to see me again after I depart this life, to just present a valid credit card to the Duke ticket office and I may show up!

Go Duke!

And we're paying Elon to do it with us.

It's been seemingly forever since we've had a noon September game, so pack your sunscreen on the 6th. (And come join us at our tailgate for brunch.)
First noon home game since Pitt over Thanksgiving weekend 2023. First September home noon kick with fans(there was one in 2020) since the Northwestern game in 2017.

I've enjoyed the extra night games of the last few years. It certainly seems to help the atmosphere. But I hope we get a better mix of game times this year. And brunch tailgating is the best.

yes, when Nina calls to ask me (or ESPN calls) I'm going to request a bunch of 3pm games...allows for good dining pre and post game.
