Duke Football 2025 — the Offseason Thread

Was watching Get Up on ESPN and they showed Riley Leonard with a Duke image (they were showing the top 10 QB draft prospects and he was #10). Notre Dame is just so forgettable…
Well he’s trying to be an NFL QB, and his best year throwing the ball was before he wore the green and gold. I wish I had even a nickel for every time the commentators and talking heads mentioned how much better of a runner he is.

Honestly, I think the most recent Duke QB before Riley to win at South Bend will end up with a better NFL career. And outside of making a boat load of money off of the Mara’s, it has been incredibly underwhelming (though at least marginally enjoyable to watch as someone that doesn’t love the NYFBG; mixed emotions there though given he was and is our boy)

Article and video interview with Mensah.

Mensah joined 99.9 The Fan’s morning program, “Next Up” with Paul Ihander and Graham Hill, offering fans a glimpse into his transition from the Big Easy to the Bull City. The conversation touched on everything from why he chose Duke, how he’s adjusting to life in Durham and the emotions he expects to face when lining up against his former team in 2025.

last year's OL this time of year was so depleted that Manny took a flier on a lot of guys, some of whom didn't pan out. Things are looking a lot better now, fortunately.
Yes, and to me perhaps the most impressive Manny accomplishment last year was the creation of a scheme that allowed the OL to overachieve in pass protection for an astonishingly immobile quarterback.

It's a bummer the game isn't on TV at all, I was hoping to at least catch it on demand. Looking forward to the reports, though!

Here's a snippet from ESPN today. By the way, their "player to watch" isn't Mensah, but a healthy Jaquez Moore.

Spring storyline: Is Duke ready to push into the ACC's upper echelon? Here's a fun fact: The only teams with more conference wins in the past three years than Duke (14) are Clemson and Louisville. After last season's surprising 9-4 finish, Duke spent big to land transfer Darian Mensah at QB, and expectations are incredibly high in Durham for the first time in -- well, it's been a while.

And this just in .....

Reserve/medical redshirt RB Marquise Collins (College Station, TX) has entered the transfer portal and will have 4 remaining years of eligibility.

he could never get healthy. Major knee problems. Might have thought his best move would be to stick around and get a Duke degree, but evidently not.

Having to retire at 61 from local beer league hockey due to rupturing the ACL graft, I get it. Taking the uniform off for the last time sucks. At some point, I hope he finds a quality education when the pads come off for good

Spencer Jones, rarely used tall wide receiver has opted out, unfortunately

"Opted out"? Of what? Playing again for anyone?

Portal action this time of year makes far more sense than at the end of the season. After Spring practice, players have a good idea of how they fit in the scheme of things, or even if they fit at all.
