Duke Football 2024

others seem to be saying you don't get all the sports channels, right?
If you don’t need Bally, it has everything else Xfinity has. It’s cheaper. Its interface is way better. It’s better to watch ona laptop or phone if that ever comes into play (like listening to a Duke game with traveling). And the customer support is exponentially better.

YoutubeTV is excellent. I've had it about 5 years. I let go of Bally and the Braves when I did but I haven't looked back. The recording and playback across all your devices is fantastic. TV 100% on your terms...

Since the Elon thread is heading to the page that time forgot, I'll just post my game thoughts here. Murphy is the 1st pure packet passer Duke has had since I can remember, maybe 2 decades or more? I know That passed way more than he threw but he could run when he needed to. The uptempo offense when it consisted of short to medium range passes was pretty effective. Murphy can definitely throw the long ball that the Duke WRs had a hard time catching up to. A lot of that will be solved with timing and chemistry, but Duke also doesn't have a 5 star top WR to just out talent whoever is covering him, that could hinder how effective Murphy is.
The running game is a huge concern, the RBs seemed undisciplined, not turning up the field and trying to outrun the pursuit going sideways. The biggest concern was the line not getting any push at all. I'm not sure Duke had any run of any significance until the 4th quarter. This will be a long rough season if this does not improve greatly. They did well in pass protection. I think Murphy was hurried a couple of times. It reminds me of the OL when Cut first took over where they really improved in pass protection but couldn't open a hole for nothin. Those lines were undersized compared to their competition though.
Defense was great, lots of sacks and they did a great job of shutting Elon down when they got to the other side of the 50.
As someone who was in attendance and had to sit in section 17 below the Devils Deck, have to say, not a fan. Or at least, I would not care to sit in the section again, and they should probably tarp it off. Getting hit (accidentally) with drink and food is not fun.

Probably since Ben Bennett. That’s 40 years ago. No, wait. It can’t possibly be that long ago!

Thad Lewis, my favorite quarterback ever, was a pocket passer who spent a fair amount of time running for his life. Spent some time in the NFL as a starter and played for six or seven teams. He is now the quarterbacks coach for the Baltimore Ravens. He graduated in 2009. Only Anthony Dilweg threw for more yards in a season, and nobody threw for more yards in a career (over 10,000 yards). Ben Bennett is second on the career list.

Thad rushed for negative yardage career-wise.

But I was paying attention! I sat through those 1-10 and 0-11 seasons. :(
I mostly sat through these too, but back then we could retreat to the Whitford lot for a quick adult beverage at half time. I have to admit that we didn't always return to WW to suffer through the second half.

Same with Sean Renfree (-167 yards on 153 attempts over 42 career games)

Thanks. I need the encouragement.

If I let go of the Braves my fetching bride would let go of me.

Thad never had that go to receiver. Eron was not bad, but he was a senior in 2008 and would have been super useful in that offense the following year.

Thad certainly lacked the surrouding help that Ben Bennett or Anthony Dilweg had. He took a lot of big hits but never flinched.

Same here. I'd have loved to see him play on some of the Cutcliffe middle-era teams. Bennet is my second-favorite, and to this day it still confuses me why he did not have an NFL career.
When I went to see Dr Bassett after I dislocated my shoulder in December of 1983, he told me that Ben had dislocated both of his shoulders by that point. May have had something to do with it.

It was also a crazy time with the USFL, etc. I ran into him a few times in Houston in 1985 when he was hanging around with Jim Kelly while he was playing for the Gamblers and I guess Ben was trying to catch on with them.
Ben did have a good career in the Arena League and made their Hall of Fame.

the best example of Spurrier coaching I think I ever saw was when Steve was OC and Bennett made a group of much larger, faster, talented Tarheels look like dopes...had them crazily off balance all day. The Google tells me he got the Sports Illustrated offensive player of the week for that game.

One possible reason Bennet didn’t make it in the NFL was his bad habit of parking in the head coaches reserved spot during training camp. Probably did not start out on the right foot.
