Duke Baseball 2024, ACC Champs!

My wife is a Vol alum, but I can't help it ... I'm rooting big (but quietly) for the Aces. I got really tired of all the press here this week about how they didn't belong on the same field.

UNC tried to give it away in the 9th, but failed... so they are going to the CWS as well.

Are all qualifiers so far from the ACC?

Anyone watching the Florida-Clemson game on ESPN? Game is tied 9-9 in B10, 2-on, 2-out... Florida hitter sends a long line drive to deepest center field... CF makes an over-the-shoulder basket catch on a full run as he crashes into the wall. Reminded me of the famous Willie Mays catch at the Polo Grounds, I think. Great game.

Edit: they've showed the replay of the catch about 10 times and they're showing the Willie Mays catch in 1953, saying this catch was even more difficult since he was in mid-flight and crashed into the wall. Sports Center Top 10 for sure.

The most famous Willie Mays catch, IMHO (Where the H disappeared during the Cold War), was the over-the-shoulder catch in the '54 World Series against Vic Wertz and my Cleveland Indians at the Polo Grounds (483 ft to center field). The Indians, with 113 wins, were h-u-u-g-e favorites and got swept.

Clemson-Florida going into the 13th, still locked at 9-9. That Clemson centerfielder Cannarella saved the game twice... once with that catch in the B10 and before that with a 3-run HR to tie the game in the T9.

After the HR another Clemson player is ejected for taunting? and then Clemson Coach Bakich is ejected for arguing.

Edit: Both coaches are suspended for two games after this one.

Well, these officials seem to have an attitude. They like to eject players (and coaches). And I actually thought it looked like Bakich was being fairly polite (at least initially) while the official was yelling at him.

But it’s curious that the bad behavior that resulted in an ejection was not actually apparent to the commentators.
