Duke Alums on the 2024 PGA and LPGA Tours

We see now why Kevin has never played Bermuda, the course doesn't suit him. I hope he heads for St. Simons Island immediately and plays the course there every day.

Alex comes through in a big way, birdieing 6 of his final 11 holes after falling out of the cut. He's currently T20.

He needs to hold his position, because the perfect storm is still raging. The current #152 and #157 in the FedExCup Fall are T2, #135 is T4, and #123 and #125 are T10. Unfortunately this is also making Kevin's task next week harder.

Ugh I blew it- he finished -5 for the day after the double bogey on 18
Yep, this is why I never comment mid-round on a good day, only if he is playing lousy.

(I know that anything I post has absolutely no effect on his round, but...)

That final hole might have cost him a chance at a win tomorrow, but almost as importantly it clinches his card for next year. Whether he finishes the year at #61 or #125 doesn't matter, because even a win wasn't going to get him enough points to reach #51-60, which would get him into the first 2 signature events of 2025. Of course it would have gotten him a 2-year exemption, and the status of a PGA Champion. No doubt he could still win tomorrow, but #18 did make it considerably tougher.

I mostly hope this means he has found his game and that 2024 was just a rough year. I look forward to him being a consistently top-50, even top-30 player again.

Well, Alex +2 through 4 and has dropped 25 spots. Will probably still secure enough points so that next week won't matter.

Alex had a mediocre weekend but his lead on #126 remains 43 points, so he held his ground with another week in the bag. He should now safely have secured his card, but a perfect storm of finishers below him over the next 2 weeks could oust him. I give that about a 0.01% chance of happening.

Kevin inched closer and is now 71 points behind #125. But he fell behind his necessary pace of needing to make up 30 points per week. He's playing well, he still has a shot. He has guaranteed his conditional status for next year.
Alex's lead is now 39 points. #126 moved up 28 points, the most I can remember, which I attribute to there being no top-50 players in the field to steal points. There are 11 such players in the field this weekend so Alex appears safe, the Tour cut line shouldn't move more than about 15 points, probably less.

Kevin is now 104 points behind #125. He needs a standalone 4th-place finish to keep his card.

In unexpected good news, Adam made the field. He was around the 3rd or 4th alternate when I checked Sunday. He needs to win for a card (and 2-year exemption, obviously). A standalone 2nd would get him conditional status. He had a very bad year making only 2 cuts. He's only 37, could have some good years left (just look at Kevin), so there's always Q School (and Korn Ferry next year) if he wants to keep grinding.

The most important day of Alex's year: Sunday, October 6. He had been floundering all year and had been outside the top-125 since June. He shot a near-perfect round with 2 eagles and 5 birdies and moved up 17 spots to finish T5. If he had just held his ground on that Sunday he would have gotten 65 less points and would still be outside the top-125 and scrambling for his Tour life this weekend. One day changed his whole year.

Big changes coming to the Tour in 2026, so Alex safe but needs to step up his game next year. See off-topic PGA thread for details.

Kevin shot even par today, will need to improve to make the cut and has no chance of making Top 125. He will have a chance to play some tournaments (126-150 ranking), but those opportunities are limited as Adam Long can attest. Wonder if he will just call it a great career and possibly plan to play the Seniors tour?

Adam and Alex still on the course and both at -1.

Adam, Alex and Kevin all played Plantation today which was the easier course due to the wind. They will play Seaside tomorrow…so hopefully the wind dies down.

Who are you scoring? I assume it's the same group tomorrow, or do you stick to a course? Good luck getting a Dukie on the weekend.
