Duke Alums on the 2024 PGA and LPGA Tours

Yowsers!!! Alex with a -8 and is all alone in 1st. He won't stay there (half the field has yet to tee off) but he's in excellent shape for the weekend. I'm pretty sure this is the first time he has been in first place on the Tour.

Keep it goin'!!!

I expect Alex to be in the top 5 at the end of the day, and maybe in the last pairing tomorrow. Two guys have already tied him in 1st, but first in last out. Of the afternoon players, only 1 is within 4 strokes (a -11 yesterday, and golfers rarely follow up a day like that with another). Another is 5 back, and the 5 more are 6 back. But it's going to be in the low 90s this afternoon in Kentucky, and the golfers may wilt a bit.

So excited to be interested in the weekend of a golf tournament!

Yeah, looks like T-3rd is probably the worst he will be and if the player who shot -11 yesterday does the typical revert to the mean, he could very well be in the final group.

Personally with Alex’s issues finishing weekends, I prefer he not have the added Final Group pressure even if it isn’t Sunday.

Alex with a great start, sinks a 21-footer for birdie on the last and currently -5 and T16. Adam good with -4 and T37, Kevin not-so-good (ok, terrible) with +1 and T135. Course playing very easy, looks like the cut will be -5, maybe -6.

Max good in Scotland with -3 and T34.

well this performance came out of nowhere, but pro golf is fickle. Hope Alex’ momentum continues.

Gotta disagree, buddy. Alex's problem hasn't been finishing weekends, it's been making weekends! 😜 He's only made 5 cuts in 19 events.

I wanna see how he does in this situation, been waiting for it. He has the talent, he can do it.

P.S. Of those 5 cuts made, he's finished in the top-21 four times. Without ever being in this strong of a position on Friday night. He can do this.

Yeesh. Cut line -8, I don't think I've ever seen that. Adam and Kevin didn't make it, so all our hopes (domestically) are on Alex. He's got as good a chance as anyone, all the best golfers are in Scotland, so let's bring it home Alex!

Lowest cut line in PGA history according to announcers.

Max Greyserman is Even through nine holes with a double bogey, bogey and three birdies so far in today’s 3rd round. He remains -7 for the tournament.

Greyserman finished -1 today and is -8 (T25) for the tournament. He carded four birdies and three bogeys on the back nine.

I'd like to see Alex post a -7 today. I thought they might toughen the pin placements, but the course is playing easy again. A -10 has already been posted, by a golfer who is #232 in the OWGR.

I think it will take a -6 to keep him in the top-10. A -5 maybe, but a -4 or worse will send him plummeting down the leaderboard. It's moving day.

Smalley is -2 through 11 holes. After a couple early bogeys, he has made four birdies.
It's just my crazy superstition, but I never comment on good play mid-round. But if the wheels are coming off, I like to provide a metaphysical kick in the pants through my computer.

A lost opportunity. Alex didn't fall nearly as far as I expected because almost everyone else in the top-10 to top-20 did just as mediocrely. A fantastic round could still get him a win, a great round could get him a top-5, but if he holds his current position he won't even get back into the top-125 in the FedExCup.

Hoping for a much, much better day tomorrow.

Alex double-bogeys the easiest hole on this easy course, effectively giving up 3 shots to the field. After being in 1st place for a while on Friday, he is currently T39 and will make no meaningful progress in the FedExCup standings. On to another off-event next weekend.
