Duke Alums on the 2024 PGA and LPGA Tours

Max has played 6 holes in his second round and is 1 over for the day and 2 over for the tournament. The projected cut is +3, so Max doesn't have a lot of room for mistakes for the rest of his round today. Bryan Kim has just begun his second round. Very hot today in Pinehurst, in the 90's, and the course is playing harder than yesterday.

Max is +2 after 13, +3 for the tournament. Projected cut line is now +4.

Max finishes at +5 and needs a little help for that to be the cut line. Interestingly, Kim could be part of that help if he dropped a stroke from his current +4, which only requires one player to move back now.

I think (ergo sum)that Max is in. All the players at +5 have finished their rounds, so no one can move to +4. There are 7 players at +6 still on the course. six of them of them would have to go -2 to increase the number at +4 or lower to 65 players -- close to impossible.

Max with an excellent 68 in his final round to finish at +5 and sit tied at 25th. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up a few spots better maybe even pushing top 20…

Beat me too it😀. His FedEx projection is currently 98th; which at this late date, likely guarantees his “card” for 2025.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Thursday tee times:

Max Greyserman #1 6:56 am
Kevin Streelman #1 8:13 am
Alex Smalley #1 1:49 pm

Alex's week is done before the turn. He had a 55-FOOT bunker shot that he launched 58 YARDS. Triple bogey, currently T143.

Not so fast my friend! Alex birdied the next three holes and is even par thru 11. Cut projects to -2 to -3 right now so he has saved himself temporarily at least…

Oh well. This may be the weakest full-field event of the year. Coming after 2 signature events sandwiching the U.S. Open, many of the best players skipped Detroit. One top-20 player and a smattering of top-50s, and I think there were significantly more players ranked 100+ than under.

We'll know more about Alex's chances to keep his card next week, the John Deere has been by far his best tournament as a pro. There are only 2 more full-field events after that which he will qualify for, so the playoffs are a very, very long shot. The fall schedule will make his season longer and give him a chance, but there is no room for error. He completely screwed up this season with his playing choices at the end of last year, I really hope he can keep his card and start fresh next year. He's certainly capable of being a top player on the Tour.

J. Boonchant and her partner are tied for the lead after 36 holes in the LPGA team event this week. They posted a pair of 64s.

The other Duke ladies not doing very well, including Celine.
