CFB Coaching Carousel 2024-25

WV rehires Rich Rod. Wow, RR has seen a lot of HC jobs, is he the larry brown of college football?
This is Rich Rod's fifth head coaching job (second time at WV). Brown had 13 or 14 head coaching jobs including college and pro, plus some European jobs if I recall.

Larry was hired to coach at Davidson. He showed up, didn't like the carpet in his office, and he left. There was slightly more to it than that, but not too much more. I was a soph at Davidson when Larry came and left.

Here's a linky to an article that mentions the episode.

Back to college football coaching and I ask forgiveness for triggering so many with the brown reference.

BB is actually being considered for the HC position at UNC. Could anything be funnier? He's a massive loser as a HC, without the GOAT. Massive loser, in a decade without the GOAT he is about a .400 type coach. They guy other HCs want to play against. He's a DC genius but allowed a Nick Foles led team to get 41pts in a SB loss. Do you remember that MB2.0 needed to have a guy with a book of plays, right beside him- sparky or someone like that. BB needs a 400page manual..that has led to abject failure. 70-93 as a HC without the GOAT..a 0.42 winning percentage.

Lots of great HCs are associated with strong QBs. Like Pete Carrol and RW or Ditka and mcmahon. In both cases they did much better without the star qb. Also several coachs like Shula or Gibbs have won a SB with multiple qbs. Only 2 qbs have won sbs on different teams, Manning and the GOAT. BB is just not a good coach.

you are pre supposing that Brady would have developed into the GOAT without BB and the way the Pats organization evolved over those many years. That's not a supportable decision. You seem to be saying that BB is a terrible coach who merely got lucky with Brady. I don't think that's a position shared by many. I don't think it's shared by Brady himself.

has unc responded to Bill's 400 page manifesto/list of demands? Maybe he needs to add more, get his grandchildren a gig.
unCheat is too busy consulting with the current powers-to-be at the Dental School to consider a mundane BB manifesto.

I can't judge if Belichick is or is not a great coach; I only know which one I want to be true.

That said, how many great coaches are still great coaches at 72, after having coached for 49(?) years?

So its looking like "Chapel Bill" has moved from speculation sideshow to front runner (only runner?) for the UNC HC job.
I'm not sure an NFL HOF (with NO college experience) guy can make it in college. He clearly has to envision/create himself as the CEO type of HC.
He has minions put in the legwork and do the hard stuff besides showing up.

I guess its a good thing rules don't matter cuz this would surely blow up if it did..... and there's a good chance it still might anyways.

I love it. Bellichick will hate everything that goes along with college coaching now, as others have stated -- recruiting, NIL, transfer madness, inability to build a team, etc. And he's got no experience in college and is too old for it.

But also: it takes him out of the running for NFL jobs, one would assume, meaning Coach Shula's record should be safe. As it should be.

I was a mere second trimester freshman when the hire was announced; what I had heard was that when the admissions committee said " no, really" to his requests, and he realized they were serious, he left town. Assistant coach Terry Holland was next up, and things probably turned out for the best.
