Caleb Foster returning to Duke for 2025-26 Season

I honestly wonder if we’d run Caleb at the 2 with Cayden at point at times. I think Caleb is most effective as a scoring guard rather than a facilitator. Will be interesting to see next season.
Kind of like JWill and Duhon both taking lead guard responsibilities but with JWill taking on more scoring. (Not saying Foster is JWill but just that 2 “point guards” can play together).

There is a contrast between how Tyrese and Caleb announced their return together on the pod last year vs. Caleb talking with Neal this year. The meaning of that contrast may be that Tyrese is on the NBA departure announcement schedule; it also may be that Duke wants to celebrate the return of a four year player in a particular way. I don't have the information to determine which of these is more likely, so it's tough to say, though your implication is correct, that room on next season's perimeter is shrinking.

Or has Jon succeeded in selling the guys on competing for time as a means of sharpening the entire team? Competition was arguably the feature of this year's team most highlighted and discussed by the program. Does this pitch even hold water in the NIL era? I honestly don't know.

But big props to Caleb for the character shown this past season. I'm excited to see what junior Caleb Foster could look like following his first healthy collegiate offseason.
My read is that Caleb Foster is ride or die for Duke, and has made this decision independently of any other personnel moves on the team. In fact, listening to him on the Brotherhood podcast, I think he made this decision years ago. I will be surprised if he is not a 4 year player and/or a Duke graduate before he leaves.

Given what I discern to be Caleb's own personal motivations and priorities, I would not rule out Proctor and Evans both returning and/or Scheyer bringing in another experienced guard. I would bet that if anyone in the backcourt is affected by roster churn, it would be Harris.

Per the bolded part, as I was listening to the podcast, I got the feeling with Caleb going to summer sessions and his stated dream to play in the NBA, that he may be on the three year graduation route. Just speculation of course.

I encourage everyone to listen to the Brotherhood Podcast with Neal and Caleb. It's impossible to do so and not just be overwhelmingly excited that Caleb will be representing Duke for another year. This young man loves being a Blue Devil. He's looking forward to taking classes this summer towards his degree. He's talking about the books he's going to read rather than being on Instagram. He and Neal go through all the things Caleb was doing behind the scenes, even during his lowest points, to help this year's squad be who they were.

Let's gooooooo.

I agree - this was great! Duke's social media team does such an awesome job highlighting the team and players throughout the year. They make you feel like you know everything about them, the 'story' of the team and their season. Of course it's ridiculous to think we even know half of what goes on behind the scenes. This podcast episode was very enlightening. I'm rooting so hard for Caleb Foster!

This is wonderful! Thanks for posting it…I am so glad I listened to it, and it brought tears to my eyes at several points. He is such a mature young man.
Near the end he said, “there are a few guys coming back with me.” I don’t know whether to view that comment with a glass half full or half empty….I guess I have to wait to see, but I am hoping for “half full”!

I'm very glad that Caleb will be on the '25-'26 Blue Devils! I think that he will be a solid contributor to the team. The recent Brotherhood Podcast with him made me respect his character even more. He exemplifies perseverance!

I'm really excited he's coming back for many reasons. I've always seen a lot of Nolan Smith in his game. I just peeked at their sophomore year per40 stats and they are eerily similar with one huge exception - FT%. Get that fixed, Caleb!

I would never predict that Caleb will make a junior year Nolan Smith jump. It would be insane to count on that. But I bring it up to point out that a big jump in productivity and steadiness from Caleb is very possible. I would be thrilled with a backcourt of Boozer-Foster-Proctor - if Jon can land that plane then we will be one of the top teams in the country.

that is quite literally the opposite of "not by choice".
I will concede “choice” was not the best word, but the point was that Caleb would want to stay at Duke unless he didn’t feel he had the opportunity to play the role he expected. And others seemed to understand that point and felt no need to be aggressively confrontational - as is your MO.

I listened to the Brotherhood Podcase and DBR Podcast on Caleb returning. One thing that Scott mentioned was Caleb's leadership next year. He mentioned Caleb's DNP-CD in the last game in Cameron, but came back in the unc game to play an important role in that game. Also, he's roommates with ManMan, and Caleb said that after that last game in Cameron and before the unc game, he was always in ManMan's head reminding him that he was the best player, and that he was capable of a great things. Caleb could have "checked out" after that last game in Cameron, but instead he continued to be the best teammate that he could be.

Made me think of Quinn Cook when Tyus Jones came in to the team. Quinn took a "second" spot and mentored Tyus in to the PG he became. And I started to think that Caleb could be in that same role with Cayden coming in. Yes, Caleb will be the upperclassman leader, but can also be that important mentor to Cayden, especially regarding what Scheyer and Duke required from the PG. Made me smile. :)
