ESPN is reporting that UNC has reached out to NFL's Arthur Smith (Steelers offensive coordinator, former Falcons head coach):
Steelers offensive coordinator and UNC alum Arthur Smith said he had a preliminary conversation with North Carolina about their head coach vacancy, but is happy in Pittsburgh.

The Steelers are 8-3, currently 3rd best in the AFC. Seems unlikely that Coach Smith would want to leave that situation right now, and even less likely that the Heels would want to sacrifice their coaching carousel headstart by waiting on someone whose season wouldn't be done until at least January.
If UNC is looking at NFL guys, then they should aim higher and try calling Bill Belichick. He could bring in Connor Stalions, and they'd fit right into Carolina's cheating culture.
