that's interesting...more evidence that a gaudy record can trump a high rating from a Sagarin type...in a way this brings up an notion I was having a few months ago saying leagues might want to have a few more in their league they think they can beat ...even if every SEC team has a rabid fan base and a coach paid eight million bucks, everyone can't go 10-2, the math doesn't work.
I was serious when I said the next step would be to move to a 16 team playoff. The SEC’s three loss teams would get in before other conferences’ three loss teams. They will care more about getting a higher number of teams in the playoff than about giving a reward to conference champions.

As an avid fan with a rooting interest and strong ties to both SEC and the ACC football during the past 50+years, I beg to differ with your assessment of UNC's prospects of success if the Heels had to play an SEC football schedule. In the past four seasons, UNC's record against conference foes in the ACC has been a mediocre 16-15; they'll need to beat NC State this Saturday to emerge with a slight winning record for that span. I don't believe it is either disrespectful or unrealistic to say that compiling a winning record against an SEC schedule is more difficult than compiling a winning record in the ACC, simply because the level of talent and physicality required to compete with SEC teams week after week is more demanding. Unless they could quickly upgrade the composition of their team after the move, I'm skeptical that UNC could consistently produce a .500 conference record in the SEC.
Good Carolina in 13-7 against the Heels in football since 1967. The Cocks were Independent for much of that time. If we’re talking about trends, I don’t see it. Williams Brice Stadium is a tough place to visit and UNCheat will never have that level of enthusiasm. They may be middling in the SEC, but USC Cola is a football school.
This is exactly why many view the whole "CFB will inevitably evolve to 2 super-conferences a la the NFL" mindset as simplistic and shallow. Nobody likes parity, especially programs that are used to consistent success and championship contention. And that includes fans.

Solution: 1)drastically increase enrollment
2) cut non revenue sports and 3) buy their way out of the ACC.

That’s what I said. They’d be Arkansas most years (a bottom half SEC program). They’d still win 3-4 games as a floor most years bc of OOC games alone, just like almost every P4 program that has a lick of decent recruiting (which let’s face it, the Cheats have). I’m saying if they went SEC though, average year is probably 5-7, floor is 3-9, realistic ceiling is 8-4, and absolute Indiana-style-one-in-a-generation year 9-3. Remember, SEC still has Kentucky, Vandy, and MState. 3 OOC + 1 of those + 1 win that you shouldn’t but somehow win bc it’s CFB = 5 wins. That’s Arkansas most years right there
