Buh bye! Mack Brown out at UNC, Bill Belichick in

My question is, if he always REALLY wanted to coach college ball (but I guess the evil NFL made him coach there instead for a few decades), he sure could have done it last year when he was unemployed and there were FAR better opportunities in openings at... for example... Texas A&M?

I watched the "A Football Life" about Bill, and I found I liked him after seeing more than just snips in the press. I do hope he doesn't succeed at unc.
I can only assume that either BB has a deep passionate hate of the sports media (ironic since he's been one for two years now) - or was playing a role - in his press conferences. The BB that we thought we knew is the BB of the presser.....the morose, non verbal, hobo dressing jackazz.

But that's clearly not who he is. His players all say he's hilarious in person, lot of personality and he shows it on the studio shows. Not sure why he felt it so necessary to play the role of the morose curmudgeon at the presser podium. Also hope he bombs at UNC....there's a story he repeated that his first sentence as a child was literally "Beat Duke." So there's that.........

From a couple of articles about Bill having Zooms with his former assistants, it sounds like it was "No one in the NFL will hire me, hey, what about college?" So yeah, maybe more "I need a job" than anything strategic.

Surprised a lot of folks feel this is going to work out well, seems like a poor fit to me. Granted I can't stand BB or UNC, so maybe that's it.

He's a horrid person, insecure & cheater, he's a loser anywhere without the NFLs GOAT ie Brady. .42 winning percent before brady and after brady in a decade of history. He's actually not a good HC, a terrible GM, and as his work on defense is below that of true leaders. Buy a box of popcorn, butter, and a new microwave.

Not predicting success for him at UNC...but NO BODY who played for him agrees with you at all. Period. No one who covers the NFL agrees with you. Perhaps you have some insight his players missed.

His players missed that he was a cheater?

It was Brady who was actually the instigator behind a lot of that.....certainly vis a vis the football deflation issue.....and I suspect that his players understand that EVERY TEAM and EVERY COACH pushes the envelope on this stuff. I also suspect that players think an offense SHOULD BE ABLE to choose the inflation level of the ball when they are on offense....if I had to guess.

So I'm sorry, but his players simply do not share your hatred of him, your disrespect of his abilities, and they know a tad more about him. Is what it is. I've no dog in this fight other than hoping he doesn't do well at UNC.....but he is liked and respected by those who know him and who know the sport from the inside.

Many links have been posted in this very thread and very recently that prove you are stating absolutes that are ... absolutely untrue.

Comparable to me, but in the reverse, of Spurrier deciding to try the NFL after so much success in college. I wonder if, like Spurrier, BB will bring his NFL assistants along.

Also, at his age the college coaching game will be a real drag after 2 or 3 years.

yeah, nothing rang true about that quote....I don't demonize the guy, but I do think he's a poor fit for unc. we'll see.

I'd think his best known assistants, guys like Josh McDaniel and Matt Patricia and Joe Judge, view themselves as NFL coaches and want to stay in the NFL, get another shot at head coaching jobs, etc. College is a backwards move for them. Plus, college assistants have to be heavily involved in recruiting. Almost nobody enjoys that -- especially if you've already moved beyond it to the NFL.

  • They don't agree that he has a .42 winning percent in the decade spent with GOAT? Do the math? Maybe they can't.
  • Or that he was cheating for years? see the settlement
  • Or that is insecure? - my definition is men "dating" people who could be a grandchild, multiple younger women FYI and has to be "coaching" and is upset he sucks so bad nobody in NFL will hire him. Insecure
  • Or according to his boss Kraft "the biggest POS- paraphrased" he has had to deal with. Brady agrees with that fyi. GM of Falcons spoke with Kraft and removed BB from consideration.
  • Or what exactly do they not agree with? That he is a great D coach. Ok, I'll give you he is competent. Just not the best. Nick Foles- 41 pts..in a super bowl.
  • Most importantly take GOAT out of his record. It is simply not good. His period as GM of patriots was terrible, horrible drafts. People in the NFL who pay the HC agrees with me. That said I'd laugh my arse off if someone tried to hire him back into the NFL.

well, that’s nit-picking innit?

False equivalence. Those who don't want to hire him now are not necessarily agreeing with you at all on his career. Logic is hard. You clearly have a real passionate hatred of a guy who doesn't know your name and never will, won't care, and yet you seem really bothered that someone somewhere might over rate him. Sorry for your loss. (note: Belichick drafted Brady. no one else).
