Buh bye! Mack Brown out at UNC, Bill Belichick in

There was a short segment on the NBC Nightly News tonight about the Belichick hire. They showed a clip from his press conference today where BB made a joke about Duke. Bill said that he was a toddler when his father was a coach at UNC in the 50's and the first words he learned to say were "Beat Duke". Needless to say, everyone in the room got a chuckle out of it. It looked to me like Bill was making an extra effort not to be his usual dour self before the media but it had an air of phoniness about it.

ESPN has posted Bill Belichick's press conference, if anyone wants to watch it.

"When you're little, you don't remember everything, obviously, I was too young to remember a lot of things from Carolina, but as--as I grew up, you know, you hear the same story over and over and over and over again, and so one story I always heard was: Billy's first words were 'Beat Duke'.

So, uh, full circle, but, um, again, very, uh, grateful and appreciative, uh, for the opportunity, um, this is a great process. I--I've learned so much about the university and the support that, uh, we have for the football program, um, and this is, you know, obviously a great educational, um, school and--and the kids here are outstanding..."

As a taxpayer, that isn't the worst deal. It's not Jimbo money. Maybe it puts UNC on the map and gets them out of the ACC. Congratulations, a couple of politicians out East who couldn't fund Xxxxx and Yyyyy at UNC got what they wanted.

But if it all blows up in five years, maybe a serious discussion should be had about perhaps de-emphasizing football at UNC and in the system overall, because if this fails, it's just not going to happen, ever.

From that last paragraph, I’d say he is a natural fit for the cheaters and their de- emphasis of player education.
