Buh bye! Mack Brown out at UNC, Bill Belichick in

No reason to be skeptical per se, because from what I've heard BB say, it's kind of like Cal at Kentucky (hoops)....it's about being a pipeline to the pros. I don't know if BB will win at UNC and I'm not sure he's really interested in that.
That didn't work out well for Cal. He had 1 title in 2012 before getting run off.

I expect Belicheck to follow the late Coach K's strategy of bringing in one and dones (in Belicheck's case, through the portal) because players who come for one year will know who their coach will be but not freshmen looking towards 3 or more years in college.

How that works out for linemen who are asked to redshirt their freshman year, as opposed to a rising senior looking to go to the NFL in a year, I don't know.
I know what you mean, but for the record want to propose that everyone read it as “Coach K’s strategy late in his career”.

Coach Prime showed what a big name and an open checkbook can do. I would not be surprised to see this work out fairly well for UNC actually.

With portal and NIL, you deal with agents as much if not more than with a “recruit.” At least that’s the model he is trying to follow.

Interesting story on Yahoo Sports about the reasons BB may be taking a college coaching position.

I still don't understand why he would want to step down to coaching in college (and at a school like UNC, hardly a football powerhouse) other than perhaps he is bored out of his mind in "retirement" (apparently, he has always been a 24/7 workaholic with respect to football) and he realizes no NFL team is going to hire him to be their head coach, so he has no choice, in a sense, but to turn to college coaching. Maybe, also, he figures he can pave the way for his son to eventually take over the "family business".

I dunno how out of touch he is, but he seems to think that all the stuff he'll do at unc will be stuff others aren't doing, e.g. good coaching, nutrition, strength and conditioning, facilities, pipeline to the nfl (guffaw)....it's been a crazy arms race for some time, I see nothing on Bill's list that many other programs aren't doing very well right now, including Duke.
Prime takeaway for me is getting them to agree to hire his kid...sounds like Bashar al-Assad's dad Hafez getting his kid to take over as dictator.

Well, I ain't no Tar Heel, but I am a North Carolina tax payer, and I throw up in my mouth a little at the notion that I'm helping to foot the bill for this little experiment in bringing the oligarchy to state college football. Just gross. Even grosser if it actually works.
I know some profs at unc who are, once again, ticked that money is poured into football while they have trouble buying paper clips.

that was kind of my point.....which I probably didn't make clear. I think what BB is trying to do is not necessarily what Tar Heel fans want.....but BB will probably do it successfully. Cal did get players into the pros. UK fans got sick of him and his priorities.

It is, but if he's really hiring his old assistant Mike Lombardi to be the GM of the football program, I think it's highly unlikely to work. Lombardi's not even good on TV.

I can see how that conversation is going now ;

Faculty Chair: How can you justify putting tens of millions more into the football program when our faculty members are scraping the barrel just to afford basic classroom supplies? If this keeps up, we'll start losing our professors to other schools!

Bubba: We don't need no stinkin' professors! Or classroom supplies! Or classrooms! As long as I have a secretary who can submit a list of grades, it's all good.

I'm sure this is a familiar lament at many colleges and universities in this country. I can remember when I was at Duke in the late 70's, there was some grumbling among faculty members about how much the university was throwing into the medical school, with the belief, I think, that having a top-rated med school would add to the prestige of the overall university.
