Blue Devils in the NBA 2025-2026

Yes, but this is Jason Williams, former NBA player from Florida by way of Marshall; not Jay (formerly Jason) Williams, injured-in-a-motorcycle-crash-almost-NBA player and current ESPN commentator from Duke.
Oops - thanks - serves me right for posting at work while doing five other things - sorry. Well I guess there is something about the name as I have not been a huge fan of our Jason Williams as a broadcaster either.

Agree with everyone above that these people should shut up and they are the ones who look like idiots. I'm not a fan of Williams' growing hot take persona - that isn't the Duke way and it doesn't look good.

That being said, I said it at the time and for once in my life I was right - very early last season he made a comment about being Rookie of the Year. It was a dumb think to say - I wrote it here at the time. A few weeks into your rookie year, keep your mouth shut and play the game. So much can change so quickly. And it did. I love his positive energy but that was different and it wasn't a smart thing to say.

I wish him the best in OKC. Not sure if it is the best place for PT in the short term but it is a well run organization that will hopefully be working with him and developing his game, which will likely pay off in the long run.

As a player who in his day was criticized by vets for his "flashy" and "showboating" play, I would have thought he would identify with a younger player doing things his own way. I guess everyone becomes a grumpy old man - just another example of Father Time's perfect record.

I can understand the notion that the emergence of VJ Edgecombe created a minutes crunch and Jared was the odd man out. A team can only have so many undersized guards who shoot, and the 76ers had more than their share.

I’ll never understand the need to poop all over the guy on his way out of town though. Particularly coming from Morey who should know better. It’s uncalled for.

Joshua Harris is hates to spending money. It was a money dump. The 76ers went from being a tax payer to receiving a tax payer funded check. A lot of the trades were done solely for the same reason.

I agree with everyone who has said these hot-takers need to mind their own business and leave Jared alone. Unless they all spent 23 hours and 59 minutes of the day in the gym when they were in the league, they have no room to talk! It is possible to take a few minutes to have fun in the day and make a TikTok video (in the locker room or not) and still put in plenty of time and attention to being the best NBA player. (Speaking of "Everyone is on TikTok," why does it seem like every former athlete is either hosting a podcast or making the rounds to join podcasts as if we want to hear what they all have to say?)

I know it was mentioned that the 76ers just had way too many guards and by the time Jared came back from his injury they had (probably stupidly on their part) not made room for the player who was the odds-on favorite to be Rookie of the Year before the injury. I'm glad to see that OKC is excited to have him and that he's already making a positive first impression.

I don't have a problem with any of these guys sharing their opinions on a shock-jock sports program (e.g. Steven A.-[hole] Smith) or a podcast (as in the not-our-Jason-Williams example cited above) or wherever... Just recognize that's all these are—opinions... And you know the adage about opinions (and a messy yet necessary body orifice)—everyone's got one... It's just that perhaps not everyone should share all of the opinions that pop into their head—perhaps some of these folks would be better served to use just a little bit of reflection, humility and self-editing before they decide to share—it might tremendously lower the amount of vapid vitriol that is spewed out into the world if they did. (But everyone has a podcast nowadays, and content gotta come from somewhere...)

Exactly... I would think "White Chocolate" would be the last person to start throwing stones while comfortably ensconced in his glass house...

I have no idea and don't care either way about his personal sexual orientation. But there's likely a reason there has never been an openly gay NBA player in history -- the league's culture is not very accepting. And I'm sure Jared gets cr*p from social media on this regardless of the truth of the matter. So even if he's not actively creating content at all times, vitriol from the online trolls can conceivably impact one's psyche, and his painting nails/general persona is apparently a target by some despite his personality being quite charming/likeable/appealing to many of us. The challenge with social media is that even if 90% are on your side, if there are just 10% jerks they can drown out the rest.
Remember the Laettner/Davis insinuations? Imagine if social media had been around then.

Dam takes his 3rd three point title, as Book misses his last 3 money balls. Feels like Kon had too long of a break and cooled off for the final.
