Blue Devils in the NBA 2024-2025

Kyrie was fouled on the play and hit both of his free throws with a torn ACL before leaving the game.

Kyrie, at age 32 (33 later this month) and with substantial injury history was playing the most minutes of anyone in the league since the (insane, incompetent) Luka trade. Indefensible. Mavericks are basketball terrorists. Kyrie has a player option this summer. I hope he exercises it, collects his $50 million dollars, spends the entire season recuperating on the Adelsons' dime, and finds a good environment in 2026 free agency to spend his basketball golden years.
As a Mavericks fan, I took a break from the franchise when it paid a ridiculous amount for HBFU, but the team shed him pretty quickly. I’m not sure these recent moves effect on my fandom can be reversed any time soon. Luckily I have plenty of Duke players to follow instead - and I hope Lively gets traded in the offseason…

If some dude in Dallas named Rico Harrison suffers because of something Nico Harrison did, you're 100 percent to blame.

His name was Rico
He wore a diamond
He was escorted to his chair, he saw Lola dancing there
And when she finished, he called her over
But Rico went a bit too far
Tony sailed across the bar
And then the punches flew and chairs were smashed in two
There was blood and a single gun shot
But just who shot who?

I've seen a lot of artists quoted on DBR but that is definitely the first Barry Manilow reference I can recall :)

The new owners are deliberately sabotaging the relationship with the local fanbase so that they can get the league to agree to let them move the team to vegas. It is easier to justify the move if they can say 'we were only able to sell 3000 season tickets last year and we have pledges for 20,000 season ticket purchases in our new home if you will just approve the move.'

Doesn't the NBA and don't the owners want the dough ($3B or so??) from a new franchise? Why would they allow any team to move there, no matter the justification? IMHO, where the H stands for High-roller.

Yeah, ESPN has reporting that there is going to be expansion in the near future, that Vegas will be the site of one of the new teams, and that the league is waiting until after the Celtics sale resets the market before opening it up for people to bid on for the new franchises. Bloomberg estimates that the new franchise fee will be in the range of $4-5 billion (although I'm not sure if that factors in the market effects of the Celtics sale or not).

That's more than what the Adelsons paid for their stake in the Mavericks ($3.5 billion), but also they bought less than the full team (they only bought a majority stake, Cuban still owns a big chunk of the team). If the plan really was to buy a controlling share of the Mavericks, implode them, and somehow use that to make it easier to move the team, 1. that's an incredibly stupid plan, 2. I'm not sure it makes more financial sense than just paying the fee for the Vegas franchise, and 3. hard to imagine the other 29 owners going along with it.

The NBA has some very smart people running the league and owning teams and I know they actively vet potential owners. I would think they were smart enough to have this conversation with the Adelson's before they bought the Mavs - either the Adelson's bought the team knowing there is a good chance they can move it, or they were told they likely could not. If they were told they likely could not, the league will not look kindly on shenanigans to destroy the team and it will not achieve its intended goal.

Playing childish games like in Major League is not a productive use of time and energy.

Meanwhile Zion has 37 points in 26 minutes on 17 makes on 23 attempts. He really needs to find a way to stay healthy.
Yeah, he looked great tonight.

Getting in shape and losing weight is probably his best chance of staying healthy. I'm curious if he's serious enough about his career to take Ozempic. Zion at 250 would be unbelievable.

He has been in great shape this season. I don't know exactly what his playing weight is at the moment, but he certainly looks quite fit.

Dariq Whitehead got a bit of run last night, scoring 3 pts. On the season he's scored 39 points, and his shooting numbers are quite good, except for an abysmal FT%. He's shooting 48 and 52 FG and 3FG%, for an eFG of 70%!!! Look for him to get more run as the season winds down and games have less and less meaning for a hapless BKY team.

Here's highlights from Zion's game against the Lakers. His touch around the rim reminds me of Kyrie's:

If he's currently 264, I believe that's close to his playing weight at Duke and would be a pretty dramatic weight loss in the past year. Perhaps the loss of guaranteed money has finally motivated him. If so I'll be pulling for him hard to stay healthy.
