Blue Devils in the NBA 2024-2025

Brandon Ingram hit a step-back go-ahead jumper, and Zion Williamson (playing limited minutes for the game) decisively blocked the final shot attempt, to secure a Pelicans' win over the Trail Blazers.
i see that you included "decisively" in your description of the blocked shot, and Zion would have blocked it entirely anyway, but Herb Jones had already blocked the shot to the point i don't think it really would have looked like much of a shot had Zion not come in and demolished the ball.

Your eyes are clearly sharper than mine. I based my description on the ESPN highlight title, which attributed the rejection to Zion. I never saw / noticed Herb Jones’ involvement.

Even the title for your link says that Zion blocked it. I’m sure the media gets more clicks for a Zion block video than a Herb Jones video.

Besides the players who were involved in NBA training camp, a couple of other Duke guys are currently in the G League. Cassius Stanley is with the Suns and Jacob Grandison is with the Warriors.

Undoubtedly true.

If we were to estimate percentage chances, I'd say that's a shot that goes in 80 percent of the time with no defense, goes in 40 percent of the time with adequate defense, goes in 5 percent of the time after what Herb Jones did, and goes in 0 percent of the time after what Zion did.

McCain with a -17 in a game the Sixers won, no one else worse than a -5. Oof. Anyone see the game? Was he just unlucky and in during a rough stretch?

oof, rough day shooting for Duke alums last night. Nobody shot 50% from the floor, nor got close really. Ingram was the best at 7/17 (41%).
Zion has had 2 poor FG shooting games so far, perhaps due to recovery from illness.
Jared McCain has yet to hit a 3 (only 3 games and he hasn't played a lot of minutes).
Dariq played in his 3rd career game, and 1st of this season, grabbing a single rebound.

My memory of the OADs is so bad. I saw Whitehead played last night and thought he came back out of retirement. Then I remembered it was"what's his name" that retired a month or so back to be a pastor.

yeah, even in his only year, Dariq was injured part of the time and when he actually played it was so seldom impressive that it's easy for him to slide right out the memory hole. Injuries have been the story of his career so far. If not for his reputation from HS he certainly wouldn't be in the NBA right now.

Watched yesterday's Pels vs. Blazers game, hardly recognized Zion and not because of his bulk and beard. He appeared to lack speed and lift, but what most concerned me was a player who looked disengaged on both ends of the floor. It appeared that he was subbed out several times for lack of defensive impact/effort.

Uh, Banchero has 37 IN THE FIRST HALF tonight!! Also 7 rebounds and 6 assists as Orlando leads Ondiana 71-59.
Banchero ends up 1 assist shy of a 50 point triple double. Gets 50 on a free throw with 10 seconds left (missed 4 in the 4th and I really thought he might fall just short).

Nice! Is he just the third Dukie to have a 50 point game? Kyrie, Tatum, anyone else?

Finishes with 50 points 13 rebounds and 9 assists as the Magic erase an 8 point deficit in the 4th to pull out the win!

ESPN is quick with the highlights:

According to the box score, Paolo Banchero shot 16-26 from the field (3-9 threes) and 15-22 at the line. He also had a steal and 2 blocks.

The recap is full of some good stats, and a solid postgame quote:

"Man, I'm tired; I'm tired as hell," Banchero said after the first 50-point effort in the NBA this season. "But it was a hell of a game."

At 21 years and 351 days old, Banchero became the youngest player in Magic history to record a 50-point game, and the second-youngest player with 50 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in an NBA game, trailing only LeBron James (20 years, 80 days) in 2005 against the Toronto Raptors.

Not that I can find based on some quick searching on basketball-reference.com. Brandon Ingram came darn close with 49. Grant Hill's high was 46; Elton Brand's was 44; Zion Williamson's is 43.
