Are we witnessing Kyrie 2.0 (Flagg)

I won't say who Flagg actually reminds me of as a freshman, because I don't want to go into hiding, but I'll say he reminds me of that person but with actual talent that translates to next level play.
Kyrie was clearly better than anyone he was on court against in terms of offense, for both good and bad. Zion is his best comparison in terms of being a freak talent that cannot be stopped by any conventional means. Flagg is most like those 2 in terms of his presence influencing a game. He drives the bus, as they say. Zion was number 2 and its actually kind of a shame, and a rare miss by K to not see that he was the main cog of the 2019 team, and not Barrett

Didn't Zion get hurt in a freak "equipment malfunction" and miss a whole bunch of games. Wasn't that what set the team back?

ya, I'm not all that much on opining that X is the next Y, except in rare instances. Kyrie and Flagg are both phenoms, but their games just aren't that similar....

He did, but Barrett was always option number 1 on that team and Zion supposedly said he didn't mind deferring to Barrett in the game. Zion's shoe breaking in the UNC game hurt toward the 2nd half of the ACC season, but the disappearance of reliable play from White and Delaurier were also huge problems

I’m not sure if it’s the style he plays or what but when I watch Cooper it doesn’t seem as easy as it did for Kyrie or Zion. He may finish with better stats or hopefully have a better finish but Kyrie and Zion… when they stepped on the court, I knew I hadn’t seen anything like it before.

In K's defense, that 2019 team only lost three games in which Zion played: a two-point loss to KenPom's #2 team; a one-point loss to KP's #3 team; and an overtime loss to a top 40 team.

Zion got hurt wearing a pair of Nike Tailwinds, a preposterously flimsy shoe for a guy of his size (I used to own a pair). Can't imagine what they were thinking when they let him wear those...

Also, wasn't it a "used" shoe? that he used a lot...

I recall Jacob Pullen being one of the better guards in the NCAA tournament in the 2009/10 season. Then in November 2010 Duke played Kansas State in Kansas. Freshman Kyrie Irving shut Pullen down and completely outplayed him in one of his earliest games as a Blue Devil. I hadn't seen anything like it right out of the gate . . . until Zion and RJ against Kentucky. Fun and exciting players to watch.

KI went up against a murder's row of highly touted upperclassmen PGs before his injury - not just Pullen, but also Shelvin Mack (Butler's returning starting PG from their team that lost to us in the previous title game) and Kalin Lucas (Michigan St Senior who averaged 17 ppg)

All I can add is how amazingly lucky we are to have had that many awesome and generational-type players at Duke!
I don't think there has been another university with that many great players over the last 30 years.
Duke is truly something special and one of a kind!

I don't think I've really seen anything like Flagg before, honestly. Maybe Battier is close, but not as a freshman, certainly. Cooper makes everyone around him better in a way I don't remember ever seeing before, and in particular, in ways Kyrie and Zion did not. He might be the most game-aware player Duke has ever had.

Not that I didn't enjoy Kyrie and Zion, mind you, but my point is that I think I'm actually enjoying Flagg just as much. Phenomenal talent.

Game aware, only Battier and not his freshman season. As for freshmen, it has to be Kyrie and Zion. Banchero wasn't bad either.

GoDuke!

I don't like the "he's like" game but I'll play one time: how about Danny Ferry as the comp?

I would like to offer this 6'9 junior as a comparison for Flagg.

I’m curious. I would rate Flagg’s stats as slightly better than that mystery junior.

As good as Dunleavy was (if that is who you are talking about), and he was very good, his game was not as refined as Cooper's.
