2025 NBA Draft

Sion James -- on Team Williams, jersey #55 -- is scheduled to play in Game 2, which should start at 4:15pm ET and run to 6pm ET.

Jonathan Givony posted the box score, or you can pull up the whole PDF gamebook if you prefer (box score for the game, box scores for each quarter, play-by-play).

Sion James started in one of the forward positions. (I saw some of this game, and he did not handle the ball on offense very much.) He finished with 10 points (4-10 FG, 2-6 3PT) and a game-high 4 steals, plus 3 rebounds, an assist, and a block.

Not sure exactly where this goes, as it covers the draft and the portal and the ACC next year...

Field of 68 guys got into a discussion about UNC on their latest episode and... whew, it did not go well for the Heels.

Tons of skepticism about the roster creation thus far. Consensus is UNC needs a big portal move (they mostly discuss FSU's Jamir Watkins as a possibility) to be good. Some thought that Carolina isn't even a tournament team at this point. They get into the Drake Powell comments at the draft that I highlighted yesterday (which has totally blown up on Twitter with more than 78 thousand views of my post). Jeff Goodman even rips into the hiring of Jim Tanner as basketball GM, saying he is old and not in touch with the college game.

Ugly... really ugly.

It all starts around the 17 minute mark:

When it comes to UNC, ugly is beautiful, at least to me.

You should have included a trigger warning for Clemmons…

I don't think UNC is a tourney team without an added scorer like Watkins or Fland. There's not enough offense on the roster unless Caleb Wilson turns into a 20ppg scorer. And that's just not his game.

All true, except both Philly and Charlotte have holes to fill and a top four pick gets you a valuable commodity. It might be different if Khaman was a consensus top four pick (though actually it might not), but why reach for a duplicative pick when you can fill a hole and hope your existing high-level (when they play) option can play a full season?

Especially the Sixers. If they want to compete in the short term, they have to rely on Embiid. It would be crazy for them to use the #3 pick that kind of fell into their lap to draft a backup center. Even if they decide Embiid is done and they have to go for a ground-up rebuild, I doubt in this day and age they'd decide to rebuild around a raw, defensive-minded center. As far as San Antonio, as @godins said, they're taking Harper. There's pretty close to a zero percent chance they decide to take Maluach with the #2 pick. Which leaves Charlotte. That team is in such bad shape, they have to take the best available player. If Ace Bailey is really 6'7.5", like his combine measurements said, I'm not sure there's much practical difference among the #3 through #8 picks, so maybe Charlotte decides the best available player is Maluach. But I'd be very surprised if they did.

If one of these teams trade their pick, then that could be a different story, but for whoever said Khaman might "invade the top four," if you have to assume a trade in order for your prediction to occur, then it's a waaaaay-out-there prediction.
I don't disagree with you. I don't think the Sixers will pick Maluach either, and don't think they really should. What do you, as a Philly guy, think they should do? They need some size on the perimeter, which could mean Bailey, but he is a high risk high reward pick. Awfully high to be taking a guy who you don't really have all that much confidence is going to do anything at the NBA level other than shoot catch and shoot jumpers. Tre Johnson maybe? He's 6'6" and skilled. Knueppel or Carter Bryant going higher than expected? To your point, if they view the #3 through #8 picks as not having much practical difference, then maybe they should be trying to trade down a little and pick up some additional assets.

A day late(r), but Swish has highlights from both of Wednesday's scrimmages, and DukeLights edited it into a short clip of Sion James highlights.

Yeah, if they could trade down and get something good, I'd do it, though I doubt they'll be able to accomplish that. Personally, for the Sixers, I'm not crazy about any of the 3 through 8 options, but I expect they'll end up with Ace Bailey. I was very disappointed with his measurements at the combine, so my enthusiasm for that pick isn't high. I really wish the Sixers could've gotten Cooper. He'd have been perfect for them.

Swish has same-day highlights of Thursday's scrimmages. Once again, Sion James played in the second game for Team Williams (blue jersey #55).

There's a box score and a PDF Gamebook. Sion James was a starting forward on Wednesday, but started at guard today in a backcourt with Ryan Nembhard. He played 25 minutes and finished with 7 points (3-7 FG, 1-3 3PT), 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 4 steals, and 3 blocks. The steals and blocks were both game highs.

As funny as the Drake Powell comments are, I actually have to take Hubert's side on this one. It's possible maybe Drake Powell wasn't being used in his most ideal role, but it's not Hubert's fault he had a 7% assist ratio and 12% turnover ratio, or that he shot 64% from the foul line. He played plenty of minutes . . . he just wasn't very good. Not to mention it's a pretty crappy move to throw your coach under the bus like that. He'd be a hard pass for me if I'm a NBA GM.

Is there a team Cooper would not be perfect for? I mean, I guess "perfect" is asking for a lot, but he's just so versatile. I can't think of a team that would look at Cooper and not see a future (possibly even current) starter at any one of three positions.

But, but, but didn’t Hubert and staff modify his FT stroke, tell him not to pass to the other bad players and force his offensive plays into bad TOs. It had to be the coaching.😎

Yeah, Coop's whole thing is that he may not be super elite at one particular skill but that he's really good at so many, which allows him to be a swiss army knife able to fit almost anywhere. There really is no team he wouldn't be perfect for, which is why Dallas trading the pick for Giannis or anyone else seems impossibly dumb.

Of course any team would want the #1 pick. But if Embiid and George can stay relatively healthy (big if, I know) then what the Sixers need to be a championship contender next season is a mobile PF with a high motor who plays plus defense and on offense can either shoot or distribute, depending on who he's sharing the court with. Does that describe anybody we know?

Not many teams can go from 5th-worst record in the league to legitimate contender, but if they'd managed to get Flagg, the Sixers would have.

Are we sure Nico wouldn't agree to a Cooper for Embiid swap?
