2025 Men's Basketball Recruiting

Proctor is on a team with three first round/lottery picks. I am not surprised his statistics bounce around from game to game.
Yeah, I'm just judging by where I'm seeing him in the mock drafts. Squarely in the 50s. I think if he's late first round, early second round then it's a totally different decision.

These are some glowing reviews for Cayden. Maybe he is our starting PG next year. If we could somehow land Ament and hold the following 9-man rotation together, could it rival this year's team?

Boozer/Foster
Proctor/Harris
Ament/Evans
Boozer/Ament
Brown/Ngongba

Bench: Khamenia, Henderson

Preseason top 5. Maybe it would have the offensive ceiling but not the defensive ceiling.
I think Cayden will play the current Foster role. If Procotr leaves Jon will need 2 portal guards. I like Evans as a 3 man more than 2. Ament is a college 4 to me. He is isn't guarding high level 3 men.

Boozer is more of a 4 too isn’t he?

I’m thinking we get one or two portal guards I imagine we lose at least one player to the portal as well.

I'm not sure if he's an NBA player or not. Wendell Moore had a better junior year and is hanging by a thread in the NBA. I love Tyrese. But the economics have really shifted between the NBA and collegiate players. I expect Tyrese can make $800k to $1.2M playing college ball next year.
I don’t think that’s a good comp, all due respect. Wendell’s problem is he’s a tweener. He’s not big enough to play the 3 and he doesn’t shoot or handle well enough to play the 2. Tyrese is a 6’5”
Combo guard, so big enough certainly for the point and maybe at the 2 also. His shot is much much better than it was his first two years, he’s excellent at running screen/roll and reading the defense and making the right pass, and he’s an excellent perimeter and off-ball defender. He has a lot more NBA level skills than Wendell, and he has the right frame that they’re looking for on the perimeter.

I’m not saying Tyrese is a sure starter in the NBA but I think he’s a better prospect than Wendell and, more importantly for this discussion, I think he’s maxed out as a college player. The cake is baked.

Foster and Harris are talented, highly rated guards. One or both should develop into strong rotation pieces. I'm not familiar with Ament's defense but I never expected Kon to be able to guard D1 3s this year.

I think you're missing my point. Wendell was the 26th pick in his draft. Proctor is currently showing up in the 50s. Do you think Proctor is being underrated?

He is but a Evans, Ament, Boozer 3,4,5 would be hard to stop on offense. I am really excited for a potential Boozer/Ngongba front line. We will need shooting around those 2 but also a backcourt who can guard unlike the Paolo/Williams team. Evans is definitely one and I hope Harris can carve out a role at the 2.

I am very surprised Proctor is that low. He can shoot and is a very good defender. His ball handling might be better at the NBA level because of the spacing and guys don't really play defense. I would draft him in the 30's. I would rather have him than Keels or Frank Jackson when they came out.

Boozer can play some 5 but at 6-8 his natural position is the 4. He's turned into a very solid 3-point shooter. With Brown and Ngongba on the roster, he's not coming here to play the 5.

I LOVE Proctor. But he is not quick off the dribble. And he's pretty slight in build for an NBA guard. I've maybe seen him in the 40s, but normally in the 50s in the mocks. An NBA GM might see him differently.

It will be interesting. Something is gonna have to give. Yr 1 Scheyer had Roach and Proctor play the most backcourt minutes. In yr 2 he had 4 guards playing the 1-3 because we didn't have a legitimate wing on the roster. Proctor and Sion are the 2 guys this year. I think Evans is back so who are gonna be the 2 guys Jon leans on in the back court of Proctor bolts? Foster, Boozer and Harris? I am obviously living in the moment but I expecting an active off season in the back court.

I'm of the belief Jon assembled exactly the team he wanted this offseason. Proctor is an efficient scorer and defends well. I don't think we could find a better SG in the portal, so I expect Jon to find a way to get him back for his senior year. Proctor would have the added incentives of senior year captain and Duke degree.

PG is trickier. Jon started Foster there this year so obviously he expected a lot more. Can Foster elevate his game? Is Boozer ready? Or do we go look for another Sion James in the portal?

Circling back to Nate Ament, who is visiting the third time for the UNC game, and is expecting a decision in Feb/Mar: https://247sports.com/article/no-4-...itment-discusses-fanstake-nil-deal-244627202/

Despite our angst about Fanstake, it doesn't appear to be much of a factor in his decision:

"Fanstake was such a great idea," Ament said. "I was glad when they approached me and my agency for that opportunity and I was super happy to do it. If you go on my page you can see who's the top bidder right now. It lets you see where you're wanted and adds a little extra money to the pot. It's nice to see the fans and who want me."

"I don't check it but people at my school let me know," Ament continued. "It doesn't play a huge factor in my decision though. The money isn't a huge factor, I really just want to improve in all aspects of the game so I'll go where I can improve and get better."

I've heard from a few of my baby blue friends that this is a double edged sword, as it's going to help Hubes keep his job. They'd have rather missed out on Wilson AND have gotten a new coach than retain mediocrity while landing a star player.

Of course I told them there is still time for them to get their cake and eat it too; I have faith that Carolina will have a very short post-season.
How many teams make the NIT? Is it 64+ like the Big Dance?

I don't know how you can say that. Of course he wanted to be OAD and get to the NBA as soon as possible. But life as the 50th pick in the draft vs returning to Duke for 3-5x the money, to play on ESPN twice a week, to get a degree, to chase a championship?

It's no competition. In situations like this in the past, guys left to go get paid. Those days are over. They stay at Duke for all the benefits AND to get paid. Ask Broome, Sears, Bacot, Dickinson, Edey, and dozens of other players who could have departed early as second round picks.
Yep…sunk cost fallacy.

I don't think anyone here had angst about FanStake. Like I posted when it was brought up, it's a drop in the bucket compared to the other funding streams at play.

Agreed. Good character, no problem personality with great coaching along with good to great 3pt% and solid defense.

He should get a very good look from NBA teams.

Distant second appears to be a massive understatement.... said otherwise, Louisville is significantly leading the pack... FWIW
