2025 Men's Basketball Recruiting

I hope NIL is not a determining factor of the Boozers. I believe there are other schools who will outbid Duke if that is what the Boozers want the most.
I would hope the Boozer family would stress that NIL should not be a consideration. The family has enough money that the kids don't need to be chasing extra nickels.

True, Duke has more players to refer to in the NBA than unc. But with the new landscape of college bb snd NIL, there is really no sure fire way to point to how these young guys are going to make up their minds anymore. Different times.
And there's not a strict correlation between future NBA stardom and NIL market demand. Tatum is our biggest NBA star, but Marvin Bagley and RJ Barrett (and others) were more highly rated recruits that might have demanded more if they had come through in the NIL era. Several of the top Kentucky players in the NBA (SGA and Maxey in particular) weren't top tier high school stars.

So dropping all your cash on the biggest high school stars won't guarantee you a stellar alumni network of NBA players. Even if your primary goal were to get future NBA stars, you might be better off spreading money across a few top 10-20 players rather than overspending for the top guy, unless that top guy is LeBron, Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, or the like.

Right, but that's the point. AJ Dybansta is like those guys. Or at least he's getting the same can't-miss NBA star label as Cooper.

And just having one superstar in the NBA to point to during recruiting could really benefit a BYU or UNC who today have none. The incremental value to Duke and Kentucky is lower because we have so many.

So Dybansta is not worth $3M for 1 year. But the value in being able to associate him with your program forever could be worth a lot more than $3M.

Maybe, but a kid that earns NIL can spend it all without as much questioning from the parents. After all, it's "my" money.

Just my gut, or maybe my wishful thinking, but I believe Cam Boozer wants to play on the biggest stage in college basketball next year, compete against other top players in practice every day, chase a national championship, and join the brotherhood with so many accomplished former players.

I'd be surprised if a guy whose star is shining as bright as Cam's wants to stay close to home and play for a second tier program. Sorry Canes.

I could see Cayden possibly preferring Miami if he can walk into a starting PG job. I could also see one or both brothers choosing Miami if they are offering an obscene amount of money that Duke won't come close to matching. But hopefully we are just in a period where the Boozers' agent is working out the details with our collective...

There was an On3 article about the Boozers stating it's a "2 team race" and a decision timeframe. But I don't have access. Can anyone summarize?

I assume it will say "Duke and Miami" and decision in a few weeks.

I don't have access to the On3 paywall article either, but someone on the Miami board Canes Insight confirms your guess by writing, "Miami and Duke but they say momentum for Duke." Another post in a different thread on the same board said "I saw they are announcing 10/10?"

I can't corroborate either of these statements, and the second one came out of nowhere. Is it based on something real, or just a wild guess? No link -- of course -- because everyone on a message board is all, "take my word for it".

They're wrong, and I'm right, but I know I'm going to die fighting this battle.

I thought a major consideration was their desire to play "together," which might or might not be a problem at Duke. I don't see how that can be an absolute show-stopper, given that Cam is clearly one-and-done. So, we're talking about only one season; presumably, Cayden will spend multiple years in college.

AJ Dybantsa is absolutely worth $3 mil for a year. He's a scorer unlike anything we have seen at the high school level since... well, I dunno but he is truly elite. As good as Cooper is on defense and understanding the physics of the game, that is how good Dybantsa is at getting to his spot and knocking down his shot. His pull-up jumper is almost unstoppable.

Whoever he plays for will be on national television ALL THE TIME and I just have a hard time imagining AJ won't be able to lead that team to a pretty decent NCAA seed. He's a mortal lock to average 20+ ppg no matter where he plays.

It's easy to say he's worth $3M when you aren't writing the check! 🤓

The NYT article said the average starting 5 for a top 25 team this season will cost $3.3M Is AJ worth as much as an entire starting 5? I mean maybe?

I think I posted yesterday that more college coaches scouting EYBL thought Cam Boozer will be a better one year college player than Dybansta. Although they almost unanimously felt like Dybansta would be the better pro.

My main point was just that a superstar like Dybansta can bring a lot more value to a program than just his one year on campus...

It took an extra day, but here's an actual source: ZagsBlog reported today the Boozer twins will indeed announce on October 10.

Cameron, the No. 2 player in the class, and Cayden, the No. 21 overall prospect, are down to Duke and Miami. The sons of five-time NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer unofficially visited both schools recently, and Jon Scheyer and Jim Larrañaga have been in to see them at Columbus.

Click over to read each brother offer his thoughts on their 2 finalists. It could be the how the quotes were chosen by ZagsBlog, but in my opinion, their takes on Duke and Coach Scheyer are solid and positive, but they seem more enthusiastic and emotional about Miami and Coach Larrañaga.

But don't take my word for it; I provided the link so you can decide for yourself. See how that works, Internet?

Thanks for sharing. I read it similarly.

Yeah, but he’s no Kon right?

That was for you @SkyBrickey

Pretty sure those are relatively old quotes. I think I saw them sometime this spring or even earlier. Not saying it means anything in particular, except that it’s not new/recent.

I suspect the Boozer decision may come down to what kind of a role Cayden thinks he will get at Duke. Miami can almost certainly offer a more substantial one. How important is it to Cayden that he plays 20 or so minutes per game as a freshman? I am far from convinced he will get that kind of time next year at Duke unless he proves to be at least a little bit better than he has thus far shown in the high school/AAU ranks.

There's gonna be a lot of playing time available at the 1 and 2 postion next year.
