2025 Men's Basketball Recruiting

I was kind of hopeful for Lewis but I think it is UConn. UConn was the favorite for Maleek Thomas for what seemed like awhile but I think Calipari has changed that. Khamenia has only visited Gonzaga and Arizona started to go hard at him after Tommy Lloyd coached him in FIBA. My gut tells me he stays out west.
So you're diving pretty deep on this stuff. I like it!

Sounds like you're predicting either Ament/Mullins/Henderson or Boozer/Boozer Henderson?

I'll go out on a limb and predict we have 5 returnees. Proctor/Foster, Harris, K2/Evans, Brown, Ngongba.

If we both are right, I would think our top priorities in the portal would be a 15-25mpg Center and a PG/CG like a Sion this year but with maybe more PG skills.

I think that would probably be a top 10 preseason team for next year but with not as much upside as this year's team. Big shift - the COVID 5th year will be done.

I think Boozer amd Ament are exclusive. If we land Cameron then we get his brother which eliminates a lead guard which is a bonus.
They are not exclusive. It is my understanding that Duke very much believes it can land both of them and has not gotten push back from either about playing together.

From what I hear, Cameron is more interested in Duke while Cayden is not yet completely sold on dad's school. There is some thought that they brothers might... might... look at separate schools.

Henderson is pretty much a lock and is a Winslow level 3 man. His AAU team JL3 (John Lucas) in Texas. I think Boozer amd Ament are exclusive. If we land Cameron then we get his brother which eliminates a lead guard which is a bonus. If Kon is as advertised then we will need a high level SG to replace him. I think it comes down us and UConn for Mullins whos arguably a top 10ish prospect. Mullins and Henderson are visiting for CTC. I think we will have a 4 man class to combine with 5 or so returnees and 1-2 transfers.
If we have a high level 4 man class plus one or two transfers it’s hard to see 5 or returnees. We saw that this year. If rising sophs aren’t seeing themselves getting major PT, good chance they’re outta here.

I hope so. I have has always thought Cam wants to play the 4 and that is Aments college position. Every report I keep reading is Ament is getting taller so I figured he has outgrown the 3 spot. To your second point, I always thought Jon valued other guards in the class ahead of Cayden but Cayden has really come along on his perimeter shot this past summer. A decision is supposed to be close for the Boozers.

It totally depends on the level of recruits and transfers. Yes, all these potential returnees will expect to be in an 8-man rotation including Harris and Ngongba. How will Jon play it? I would bet on him taking a different approach than this offseason, especially with the 5th year eligibility washing through - but we won't know until the dust settles.

I'll be surprised if Jon tries to carry 11 top scholarship players like we are this year. It's a lot. Impossible to give everyone minutes. I think it was Calipari who said he wouldn't try to carry more than 8. So I'd guess a guy like Cameron Sheffield who is our 12th man this year could be a 10th or maybe 11th man next year. All just fun speculation...

I mean, Duke quite literally brought in both Harris and Sion, Gillis and Flagg, Kon and Evans in the same year. I don't see some mild potential positional overlap as making it impossible to get both Ament and Cam Boozer.

I agree with you they aren't necessarily exclusive. But we will hopefully also have Brown and Ngongba in the frontcourt. Those two guys will compete with anybody for minutes next season after spending a year in the program. I wouldn't make a bet, for example, on Ament playing ahead of a senior Maliq Brown. Maybe, but maybe not.

Could we have room for all four on the roster next year? Yes, that would be phenomenal. But it might start feeling a bit crowded to someone.

I will say it again -- don't be fooled by his height. Nate Ament can absolutely play on the wing.

Watch this video and tell me that this is a "post player."

I could easily see a 9-man rotation of--

PG- Foster or Proctor (or a transfer), Cayden Boozer
Wings - Harris, Evans, Ament, Henderson
Bigs - Brown, Ngongba, Cam Boozer

That would be a great rotation. Top 10 or maybe even top 5 preseason since we're back to 4 year players.

This article is behind a paywall but the part that you can read says the Boozers are visiting Duke this weekend!

Based on the URL it appears they are also visiting Florida and Miami.

Great news. I like our chances getting them to campus. I hope they lace them up and get out and scrimmage with the guys.

They have been to campus many times given their father's connections, and last year they took an official visit during the Arizona game. It's hard to get a read on their recruitment, but this latest round of unofficial visits feels to me like a "kick the tires once more before making a final decision" type of thing.

The article mentions that the Boozers are visiting Duke, then Florida, and then Miami over the next couple of weeks. These are all unofficial visits. They took official visits to each team last year, so I think they have to take unofficial visits. Given how quickly they are making the visits, it reads like it is nearing decision time for the Boozer Twins.

This is great news overall. I'm sure the coaching staff would "run the race" with these two no matter how long they take to decide. By deciding early, it allows the staff to build a recruiting class and roster around them. If they stay in Florida, plenty of time to pivot. I'd love to see the Boozer Twins make Duke their second home.

There were no pictures on the MBB Instagram account of the Boozer twins on their unofficial visit this weekend. Maybe that isn’t allowed, especially if the visit is “unofficial”. But I hope they got to hang around with the current team members, as well as all the former players who were back. I would think all those young NBA players coming back (Lively, McCain, Mark Williams, etc) would be impressive to any recruits, as well as their Dad’s former teammates like Battier. I wonder if their upcoming visits to Miami and Florida can compete with that.

As posted in the football game thread, Blue Devil Nation had a photo of the Boozer twins at the Elon game Friday evening, sitting with Rachel Baker and Jai Lucas.
