2025 CFB Coaching Carousel

When I grow up I want to be a fired SEC coach. I’m only kind of kidding.
Hell, yea, with the amounts some of these fired coaches will continue to receive for not working, I would work damn hard to be fired. I could live a very nice life on $50 million or so, Instead of having to deal with all of the rules and regulations and recruiting and NIL and university officials and alumni and fans and miscreant players and then having to stand on the sidelines for 12 or so weekends in the Fall, hoping your players don't screw up too badly and you lose the games and everyone boos you. I'm not even half-kidding. Who would want that?

Big Bill would and does.

Maybe? Looks like they aren't waiting on Sitake, are they?

What a disaster from PSU. Just a shame.
According to ESPN, Sitake will be staying at BYU, although I believe I read this morning that Penn St had been in extended discussions with him and it looked like he was Penn St's first choice.

This is beginning to look like Texas A and M last year, where it is now embarrassing for Penn St to not have a date for the senior prom. We have to hope they don't come down to Durham and throw a ton of money at Manny D.

Manny Diaz is being mentioned again in the Penn State coach search. I’m not surprised:

I remain optimistic Coach Diaz will remain at Duke but I was one of the guys saying Mike Elko wasn’t going anywhere.
I saw Manny mentioned in another article but it also mentioned the total Dumpster fire this search has become so here's hoping Manny sees what he has at Duke for next year and stays.

I hate to bring it up, but the longest Diaz has coached anywhere has been five years at Miami. Even then, the longest he's held any single job as a coach has been three years (he was DC at Miami before becoming HC). Like Elko before him, Diaz has been a job jumper.

Not that I blame him or anyone for getting the best gig the market supports, but I sure don't have any optimism about keeping him around. If someone throws a truckload of money at him, I won't be one bit surprised if he takes it and runs. I hope he stays right here. I think there are good reasons for him to do that. But I just can't be optimistic about it.

It does mean that each year he stays, I'll be freshly appreciative.

In yesterday’s National Signing Day press conference (I posted a link in the recruiting thread), Coach Diaz was asked whether he was receiving interest from other schools in the midst of all the coaching vacancies. His answer pretty much avoided the question. He said, “All I am doing is coaching Duke” or words to that effect not sure my quote is verbatim.

This is what is known as a non-denial denial.

Totally agree with you here. I have a (somewhat) bad feeling in the pit of my stomach about this (and I hope I am wrong). It worries me that we MIGHT be seeing deja vu all over again, from the Midnight Mike debacle. Unless Penn St already has some other coach (who might still be coaching his current team) tied up with some sort of secret contract (but it's hard to keep anything like that secret, in today's day and age), then I have to believe Manny D might be a viable option for Penn St to avoid the embarrassment of not having a coach for the team this late in the process. I don't know enough about college football to know what other viable options remain on the table (rising assistant coaches, etc.). I'm sure the Penn St faithful are not happy about the current situation and probably wouldn't be jumping up and down about Manny either but tough luck to them (if it happens at all).

Penn State's long process for replacing their coach is certainly impacting current recruiting

On signing day, they received 2 commitments, ranking somewhere around #150 in team rankings (depending on the sites)
By contrast, VaTech is ranked #25, considerably higher than most previous years, in part because 10 prospects who verbally committed to Penn State under Coach Franklin have ended up at Va Tech.

Duke has a smaller class (as expected) and is ranked #58 after a large 2025 class which ranked #30

I took that to mean that people have contacted his agent and nothing else to mention. Penn St has supposedly looked at close to 20 candidates, and all of them have been a miss to some degree. The other thing is Pat Kraft was not particularly interested in either Brent Pry or Manny Diaz, but there is also a good chance Pat Kraft won't have a job pretty soon.
I actually do not expect Manny to be interested in Penn St in its current state unless he thinks he could take most of the current Duke roster with him. Penn St has also lost pretty much their entire recruiting class for the first signing day. As far as Manny signing an extension, didn't he already get one for the finish from last year?
Anything can happen and Penn St is desperate at this point, but I'll be more worried when FSU finally dumps Norvell next season.

I'm surprised Nina has not tied Manny up with a new, longer-term, and more lucrative contract. I actually thought this might happen a few weeks ago. Unless Manny has rebuffed any efforts to do so, to keep his viability open or it has happened and just not publicly reported. Maybe there is "stuff" going on in the background that none of us are privy to?
