2025-26 DWBB

The line for Syracuse vs Pitt 41.5 in Syracuse's favor. Thinking that was crazy, I bet ten bucks. (I very rarely bet, but that number was insane.)

Final was 'Cuse 86, Pitt 46. I barely won a twenty dollar bill. I was sure I was going to lose, as at times in the 4th, it was closer to a 50 point win than 40 points.

Their 2 wins are against teams that are 0-10 in conference.

Boston College...are they good in any sport? They are 0-6, with only 1 of those losses by less than 22 points. That was against almost-as-woeful Pitt, whose other ACC games were losses by a minimum of 19 points.
Al Skinner is still laughing at them

You meant Louisville beat Pittsburgh 86-46. I was confused because I was about to mention Syracuse beating Virginia today, in Charlottesville, 79-60. The Cavs are now 5-1, while Louisville is 6-0 and Duke is 5-0 with the Stanford game in about an hour.

Here's the ESPN box score. Laila Phelia (38 points) and Sophie Burrows (7 of 8 threes for 21 points) nearly outscored UVA by themselves.

Yes. I'm home watching women play while dying on my couch, so my brain fog gets an excuse.
Gonna go take my ten bucks in winnings and buy half a bottle of flu meds.

Fun news: Duke went from 0-5 quad 1 entering Sunday to 3-5 by Monday morning as not only did Notre dame re-enter the net top 25, but Syracuse jumped to 42 by walloping UVA. As such the road win we had against Syracuse is also for now quad 1.

Neither of these things may last but still very nice to see

I don't understand this. Seems it should be their ranking when you played them. If a key player gets hurt but they were full-strength when you played them, you should get credit for playing a higher ranked team.
Well, Duke will likely make a couple teams happy with the inverse. By the time we lost to LSU, we were way down the totem pole. Bet they ain't too sad to see us rise.
I 100% agree with you though, it should be the placement at game time that matters.

I was one of the people that was really down on this team. I'm pleasantly surprised by the turnaround. When Delaney Thomas plays well, the entire team looks different.

BTW, my daughter goes to school with one of our recruits for the class of 2027. She was recently officially offered by Duke. My daughter let me know that the recruit was wearing a Duke sweatshirt last week. Of course, my daughter never notices if she's wearing any other teams gear on other days 😆

I've not been down on "the team" much, but right after the WVU debacle I was very much down on Coach Lawson. At the time I said it was one of the worst coaching jobs that I've ever witnessed, and I still stand by that. (All we had to do was play basketball in the 2nd half with poise and patience, and we win that game easily.)

But I was a fan of hers before that night, and I've been one since, of course. That game set us off on a losing streak (aside from Liberty, which would have been disastrous), but not an unexpected one as three of our next four losses were to top five teams. Something in that losing stretch clicked for both the staff and the team, and post LSU, we're 8-0, with some impressive wins.
I do like "teaching losses", but having six of them was a hell of a hurdle.
Whatever, those are in the past, and everyone from Kara down not only knows what they can do, but are proving it. As a fan, I'm proud to see the whole team punching adversity in the eye.

So that would be 6-5 post Harper Dunn?

So it goes both ways. On one hand, it’s as you say. On the other hand, if a team begins the season top ten but turns out even fully healthy to have never been worthy of that ranking, why should you get the credit for a “top ten” win? That’s the concept that this system is meant to avoid.

I'd say she's probably 6'-6", but, yes. She transferred to my kids school this school year. It was a big cluster because the NM Athletic Association did not grant her eligibility initially. She had to file suit against the NMAA. Her old school literally didn't have enough girls in the school to field a team this year. Anyway, the new school was really good last year and young. They returned almost everyone and added Harper. They have struggled a bit learning how to play with Harper. Hopefully they figure it out soon.
