2025-26 Announcer Thread

For whatever reason (I’m sure there is a simple solution to this) my TV has a 30+ second delay. For the reasons you mentioned I like to follow online but it is challenging as the stats update online well before I see it on my screen. So I resort to checking stats during commercials. That being said, if this was my biggest problem in life I would be doing very well…
Same problem here. I can't do the DBR chat because most people are ahead of me by 20-45 seconds (or more... Moonpie appears to be watching from the future!) and give the game away before it happens on my TV. I chime in during timeouts and halftime.

Jimmy Dykes can be wearisome, but I did enjoy his commentary in the 2019 Louisville comeback game with Zion and Co. With the good guys down 20+ and the play by play wandering a bit due to the margin, Dykes smelled blood in the water about the time our guys did and started paying attention again - "It's over, but it's not over." Nonsense when typed, but a great portent of things to come.

Dykes is ok. At least he focuses on the game. But his manner is so friggin serious. Like this isn’t any fun at all and the fate of the world depends on every play. Lighten up Francis !

Here’s an updated handy guide to announcing teams for all ESPN/2/U/ACCN/SECN bball (men’s and women’s) games through 12/31. Scroll down.

ESPN Press Room's December schedule has some interesting new announcers assigned.

12/13 (Saturday, 7:30pm ET, ESPN): Indiana-Kentucky (Dave O'Brien, Dick Vitale, Charles Barkley)
12/20 (Saturday, 12pm ET, ACCN): Montana-Louisville (Rich Hollenberg, Emeka Okafor)
12/20 (Saturday, 4pm ET, ESPN): Memphis-Mississippi State (Chuckie Kempf, Rodney Terry)
12/31 (Wednesday, 2pm ET, ACCN): Clemson-Syracuse (Wes Durham, Dennis Scott)

Former Arizona player Miles Simon isn't on the schedule this month, but will be calling some games this season. Former NC State coach Kevin Keatts is doing some studio work during halftimes and between games.

The wacky Vitale/Barkley pairing will continue with a First Four game next March on CBS/Turner Sports.

RyeI haven’t been thrilled with this Brando/Jackson combo. It’s partly that they seem very pro-MSU. I can forgive that, somewhat, since it’s natural to be in favor of the home team, but they also just aren’t very good at conveying what’s happening in the game. Who was the foul on? What’s the call? Never mind. My story is way more impirtant.

mute button came up big as usual, though I may have to listen to the sound to savor Izzo berating the scorer's table and the clock dude....

If I hear Jim Jackson say "utilize" one more time. . .

I think he also said, in regard to NBA challenges, "I've seen it and I've witnessed it."

Biggest problems, though, are that he and Brando are (1) not that smart and (2) obviously Big Ten guys and showed it throughout the broadcast. Everything was spun toward MSU. I will give Jackson credit for saying Cameron's fifth foul was a strange call. He was trying to get it right.

And in other news, I thought Sean McDonough was really good on the call for last night's game. If he was in the middle of something and something exciting happened, he stopped his story and did the play call. Well done, Mr. McDonough.

I also thought McElroy was one of the better color guys we’ve had all season for football. He focused on plays and often clearly pointed out why things did or didn’t happen. Example: on Mensah’s INT.

As for the overall production, I got a bit tired of the camera going back over and over again all second half to Morris on the sideline, as if he was the game’s main character. The announcers didn’t really feed into that, thankfully.

I enjoy this tandem more than Fowler & Kirk H. The New England/ Alabama contrast works well.

I really enjoyed listening to the "coach" (don't remember who it was -- a former Wake Forest coach(?)) on last night's commentary reviewing and stating what he thought the play call should be and what factors go into making the right call at the right time. I liked that much more than the usual idle chatter. Dabo didn't add much, however, IMO.

Agree. I’ve always liked him and found him to be extremely professional. And the pairing with McElroy, a very knowledgeable and matter of fact color guy, definitely works in my view.

I thought both announcers were excellent. Sean McDonough is a pro and not totally anti-Duke (had a nice thing to say about our campus!). And the color guy, McElroy, was very good too and not overly biased for either team. Very helpful analysis of what was going on the field too.
