2024 U.S. Presidential election

Springfield schools were closed again today due to bomb threats arising from Trump's baseless claims that Haitian immigrants are eating people's pets.

If this doesn't fit within the "horse race" window, sue me. But just how far over the wall do Trump and his MAGA minions need to go before the sensible, rational majority rises up and repudiates these tactics -- disseminating ever-more-dangerous conspiracy theories for political propaganda purposes, without regard to the threat of violence they pose to children, public officials, and innocent immigrants? What has happened to our nation's collective sense of common decency?
THIS right here. THIS - would be a reason as to why we would not want Loomer around Trump for the rest of his campaign. This is putting people in harms way right now.

Case in point:

Stephen Miller
Paul Manafort
Steve Bannon
Roger Stone
Loomer seems less capable and dangerous than all these guys.

But in a lot of the post Trump administration books that were written, people talked about Ivanka and Jared and others around Trump being there to talk him out of some of his wildest ideas. Moderating influences so to speak...

If Loomer were there in his ear in his second term, I have no doubt she'd be supporting all kinds of crazy like arrest the hostile journalists and use the military to round up the immigrants.

This is a pretty good bit. But I struggle to give it much credence considering the source. This is a guy who propped up Elon and played his lap dog last year in what was just an embarrassingly bad interview. The same Elon who claims a decline in reproduction is the greatest threat to Western Civilization and has offered to give Taylor Swift a baby in response to her support of Harris. So 🪛 you Maher and your fake principles.
I used to watch on the regular and even agreed with some of his criticisms of my side of the aisle (left). But he went off the deep end a few too many times (like the Elon example) and I can’t bear watching him anymore. The only way I would watch now is if I could immediately skip to New Rules.

The former POTUS again today referring to the Haitian community in Springfield as “illegal”.

I do apologize if this is pushing the rules of this thread, but this is despicable, subhuman behavior. It’s not politics. It’s certainly not patriotism. This is beneath contempt.
The sentiment expressed by TFG is as un-American as it gets.

Is it reasonable to think that Trump's going full klan at the end of this week to get people to stop talking about the debate? Is he trying to re-energize parts of his base who may have wondered if he's lost his edge after Tuesday? This is almost certainly some form of narcissistic decompensation manifesting itself in lunatic racist rantings, I just don't know what its purpose is for him. It can't possibly help him electorally. I hope.

Good point. I hadn't considered the factor that having this person pour poison in Trump's ear on the daily might actually lead someone to violence when debating this with Pack earlier.

It would be nice if the press would stop filing this stuff down for people. For instance, I saw a Thread post from the Wall Street Journal a bit ago that started with "Conservative activist Laura Loomer's presence..." and ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH "CONSERVATIVE ACTIVIST" as the way you describe that person?!?! She's a 9/11 truther, she put out an outlandishly racist post about the White House smelling like curry or something the other day, she's going around gay-baiting Lindsey Graham, and on and on and on, and they give her the title of "conservative activist." Just once, I would like our media to force people to grapple with precisely who it is that is the leader of the Republican Party right now.

Two more purely electoral notes:

1. Is Trump trying to lose Ohio, too? I can't think that fomenting racial violence is something that's going to help him there. Getting people ticked off about school closures and bomb threats might turn off people who would be inclined to support Trump/Vance otherwise.

2. I think the best way to approach the prominence of Loomer for Team Harris might be to add it to the "Do you want a guy this easily manipulated negotiating with foreign countries?" playlist. https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy...m-marjorie-taylor-greene-569f9396?mod=threads

Agreed, although one wonders if the Democrats would be in a better position to push back on this vile, borderline eliminationist rhetoric (and borderline is being charitable) if they had not spent the last several years falling over themselves to prove they can be as nasty about "illegals" as the Republicans.

The grift is strong with these ones.

Soaking up money from crypto bros who didn’t trust the rigged stock market into which DJT stock was forced, I guess.

Or as Bloomberg reports:

Not to mention conflicts of interest:

I wish / hope that people that believe in his products have a come to Jesus moment of realization like Ralphie did with Ovaltine.

So this came up on my feed this afternoon, shared by two MAGA friends. No further comment needed.

Bruce Springsteen is a billionaire too, but he's still a champion for the blue collar worker after all these years. His songs are able to hit a nerve with people at a certain socio-economic station.

I am no fan of this woman's music, but I hope that these MAGA folks are not really that dense. Swift's enormous bank account has no relevance to her political endorsements. Her legions of followers and immense popularity are what matters. She is the Elvis, the Michael Jackson, the Beatles of the present.

We don't identify with our celebrities because we connect with their lifestyle. We identify with and love them because they light a spark in our otherwise (often) drab and mundane lives. Again, I don't care for her music, but it speaks to people. I think her songs are quite mediocre, but it's a fool's errand for me to convince my 14 year old that Joni Mitchell's Hejira is much better than any Taylor album.

David Giglio, whoever he is, can post what he likes, but he's a fool to try to explain logically why Swift's endorsement is invalid.

It seems the democrats want to talk about the debate and their current momentum. GOP wants to talk about brown skinned marauders in Springfield barbequing fluffy. Press wants to talk about Laura Loomer, how much of a Nazi loon she is and if she is Trump's mistress.

2 out of 3 aint bad.

I feel like everyone who has to caveat that they are no fan of her music tap shake it off on their steering wheel every time it comes on the radio.

He’s in full Oprah mode promising free stuff. No taxes on overtime is his next entitlement. The Freedom Caucus will love that.
