Yeah that’s a bad play right now. I agree with the notion, not the timing. Just stick to most basic non-divisive points for this week. Democracy - good. Taking away women’s rights - bad.

Harris' biggest pitch is that Democracy is on the line. That and the abortion issue are what bring over Republican voters. And Trump repeatedly makes that case for her. But it's clear that for a large portion of the electorate this does not resonate, including some voters that have historically voted Democrat. This is likely because they don't see Democracy working for them anyways, to them it is just a status quo. Trump still represents some contrast to that status quo - he'll just blow it all up. I don't think this group of voters are thinking very far down the road of what their country will look and operate like when checks and balances have been removed. But it's a representation of change and that is very simply what many voters go with.

Oh, and they think that somehow this will make their groceries cheaper.

I have found that both these "complaints" (illegal immigration invasion & the need to blow up the entire political system) occupy the same ecosystem. If a voter is upset about one issue, there's a good chance they also hold to the other issue.

I'm on board, let's ban all a-salt weapons. My kids asked me what a salt weapon was, I showed them this video.
