2024 Olympics - Men's Basketball - Gold!

Durant is just not guardable in fiba. I mean NBA also, but here it's even more pronounced. Props also to Booker and Holiday, who really are defending.

Yeah, that’s a pretty succinct description of why I don’t expect the US team to win gold this year. At some point there will be a close game, and the US team will fall back on the plays they are comfortable with. LeBron will try to drive to the hoop to retake the lead, and that’s not a winning play in FIBA. Too much help defense, too physical defense.
Except that he’s got KD to pass to.

100%! If the US can hit threes (and shoots enough of them), then they can win every game by 20, and everything will be golden.

Someone up thread mentioned how much contact is allowed. That’s FIBA alright. You have to accept that, and work for open threes. KD knows what to do.

FWIW, Embiid had a -8 in a game won by 26.

That's not easy.

Some of that is the wonkiness of+/-. Embiid started the game when the entire squad decided the first 5 minutes of the first quarter wasn't important. It wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't -8 just from that stretch.

anyone got a guess as to why Tatum hasn't been in?

Wonder why Tatum is benched?

One of just 2 players who haven’t played with 4 minutes left. Weird

Coach Kerr's decision to not play Jayson Tatum (or Tyrese Haliburton). Tatum said after the game that he was healthy, and Kerr said, "I went with the combinations that made sense. That was for tonight. He handled it well. He’ll make his mark."
