2024 MLB Discussion

Not a Mets fan but do really enjoy this team and Citi Field is one of my favorite venues. Very fan friendly and love the access from the 7 train.

I’ve only been to Citi for a concert, but it’s a great stadium. Access from the city may be good, but it’s a pain from Westchester.

I’m not a fan of theirs, but the run they are on is intriguing.

I'm a Yankees fan and do not generally like the Mets. But it has been kind of fun to see them go on this run. My parents were Mets fans (mom was a Dodgers fan, dad was a Giants fan despite growing up in Brooklyn). During my childhood (80s and early 90s) the Mets had more positive moments, but I was repaid for my loyalty many times over in the late 90s.

Citi Field is a nice stadium. Very easy to get to from Manhattan. It is a bit gimmicky at times but more family friendly. I went to three games this year as I had access to cheap tickets - they were early in the season and the team wasn't doing great so it was kind of depressing, but things have obviously picked up.

Part of me really wants a subway series. Part of me is nervous about a bad outcome.

For my part, as an "anybody but the Dodgers and Yankees" fan, I can get behind this particular Mets team, and really hope they stick it to the Yanks if they both get that far (although I'm rooting heavily for the Tigres in the AL). However, there is one Mets player I just cannot mindlessly root for. Nimmo always seems to pummel the Rockies when they play, and the fact that he's a Wyoming boy just makes it worse.

Never thought when he was drafted that he would succeed as he has. And seems to be a good guy, FWIW.

Dude, a subway series is by definition a bad outcome.

As a Yankees fan, the subway series in 2000 was awesome - especially living in the city with a Mets fan roommate.

As a Duke fan after our final four game with UNC, I agree that a subway series is by definition a bad thing.

Haven’t watched the Tigers all year, so I’m flummoxed by this camera angle that shows the batter on the far left 25% of my TV. Wish I could pinch and zoom my screen. Seems like an unforced error.

I’ve been pretty unimpressed by whatever is doing the games on Max.

Listen to the radio.
Baseball is the only sport that really works on radio
I am listening to John Sterling and Suzyn Waldman, while reading a book - it is wonderful and gives a great feeling for the flow of the game and the details as well - with announcers who actually talk about what is going on.

What are you watching on? Seems fine to me

Maybe the tv picture but the team's immediate future looks shaky at best. The magic fairy dust is running out

With the deciding LA-SD game tonight in Chavez ravine, my son wore his hand-me-down Tatis jersey to school today. It’s a bit big and Fridays are school spirit days, so he wore it over his school colors — blue and orange.

I explained that those are Mets colors, which is kinda cool, since that was my team when I was his age (‘86 WS win is right up there with Duke’s 91 win as my favorite sports memory) AND whoever wins tonight will be playing the Mets on Sunday.

He got worried when I told him. I asked why? He wondered if other kids would give him a hard time like they were giving his friend Solomon. Apparently. Solomon is a Dodgers fan (his family is from LA) and the other third graders are being mean about it.

So we talked about how he can support his friend Solomon while still supporting the Padres — and keeping in mind that as much passion as we dedicate to this, it is supposed to be all in good fun.

Hopefully an important life lesson for father and son: at the end of the day, if your team loses win, tip your hat to the winners and don’t risk relationships or treat people poorly over sports!

I agree 100%! Except when we’re talking about the Cheats.

Dodgers slam the door.

Maybe if the Padres had spent a little less time focused on trolling opponents and openly taunting opposing fans they could have found a way to score in more than one inning the last three games?

Maybe. Although it probably had more to do with Roberts and team figuring out how to line up pitching to shut down the Padres’ bats.

Congrats to the Dodgers. A well earned series win. In particular, congrats to Yamamoto. The Friars had had unique success against him this year. I suspect they were picking up on something that LA identified between his starts.

I loved how San Diego played this year and look forward to what comes next in the NLCS.
