2024 MLB Discussion

Poor form tommy. You obviously are not aware of Arraez’ injuries he has been managing. I wish you could call out Luis like this to his face, but I’m sure you wouldn’t if you were talking to him.
Well right before sitting out this one he did play in all the games in the Dodger series and then the opener against Arizona where he had three extra base hits. Seems pretty healthy to me.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I would think that if all three teams are tied on Sunday night, they would play two on Monday. A split and Arizona stays home, but a sweep and they would be in a long with the Monday (double) winner.
If the Mets win and the Snakes lose on Sunday, then there would be no reason to make up the games on Monday; the Mets would be a game in front, and even if they got swept in the makeup games they hold the tiebreaker. Other than that, Monday is probably on.

Math is very simple for the Braves now though. Win one game, any game, and they are in. Ideal situation for Braves is Atl and NY win today, and AZ loses.

Doubling down on your poor form doesn’t make you right. It makes you even more off base.

Arraez has been playing with a torn ligament for months: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5692142/2024/08/09/padres-luis-arraez-thumb-injury-torn-ligament/

There is nothing to do for it during the season other than play through the pain and try to get rest here and there. The thing about it is that when he barrels the ball, it’s all good. It is the poor contact that makes him grimace in obvious pain.

He also bruised his knee a few weeks ago in an awkward slide into home.

He has been getting veteran’s days off (Sunday before a Monday day off, that type of thing) as the team gets prepped for the playoffs.

In LA, of course, the Padres were still playing for the division. The first game in Arizona, they were playing to secure the top Wild Card. Now that the Padres have settled their playoff position, it makes sense to sit a key player grinding through an injury.

Luis is also sitting on 199 hits, so I’m sure he rather be out there looking to secure 200.

But don’t let that stop you from typing up a really bad take and then clinging to it. Or maybe you should just take the insult back and acknowledge you didn’t know what you were talking about.

I'm taking the under on this one.
Me too. At any rate, Arraez wins the batting title today going 1-3 compared to Ohtani’s 1-4. It was close in the end, with Ohtani getting 197 hits in 636 ABs while Luis collected 200 on the nose in 638 ABs.

This underscores how remarkable Ohtani is. Arraez is a specialist with one key skill: making contact and finding grass. And yet Ohtani almost beat him out, which running away with the HR and RBI categories.

How bizarre is it that Aaraez wins three straight batting titles with three different teams?
Right? It shows how devalued hitting for singles is these days. Lucky for the Padres they identified this skill as a potential difference maker.

With the Amazins and the Dbacks winning, are we guaranteed at least one game tomorrow?

Plus, 59 steals in 63 attempts for a power guy is just insane! If he were to pitch successfully in the playoffs (Roberts has said it's not out of the question, but I doubt it will happen), his season would be even more epic. Will he end up the best player since Babe Ruth?

He’s got a long way to go to get close to Mays’ career numbers.
