2024 Football Portal News

I really hope Manny doesn't look outside. Reward them for their loyalty. They both looked good last year. Save the NIL money to put talent around them.
Well one or both will certainly get an audition in a few weeks

Puzzling decision by Murphy IMHO. I’m sure NIL was a factor but it’s hard to imagine another decent program giving him as much rope as he had this year at Duke. Moore and Pancol did a lot to make Maalik look good - maybe he was uneasy at the prospect of no longer having them around.

I’d bet good money he goes somewhere and starts or ends the year on the bench.

Disappointed but Duke football will survive. Loftis and Belin do the reps and us fans will have to wait and see what happens

If you look at his list of offers out of HS, there are a number of schools with bigger NIL purses and need for a QB next year. Miami, FSU, Indiana, maybe PSU, among others. Lashlee was his recruiter at Miami, and SMU’s got money.

Not saying those are the only schools that might be interested, but they make sense, in a lot of ways.

This is disappointing news...but not completely surprising. I imagine we're down the list a fair bit in regard to NIL payouts. I sure wish he could play one more game though...sigh.

In this day and age, it’s really unfair to criticize when these players have a chance to go and make some real money… We’re just in a crappy place as far as the transfer portal and what it’s done to the college athletics…
But Malik played his heart out for us this year and I’m really glad for him to get a chance to go do something bigger… Good luck, my mann

No great surprise. The prospect of facing an Ole Miss defense that leads the nation in sacks per game by a wide margin would be a daunting prospect even for a quarterback who doesn't mind getting hit. On the bright side, the fact that the backup quarterbacks played so little this season might be a silver lining to the extent that it makes the job of preparing for Duke's offense in this game a bit more of a mystery.

Disappointing but I bet he is getting a bag somewhere. I had a feeling this was going to happen. Would not be stunned to see him at UCLA or USC.

This tells you all one needs to know about him. Why in the world was he made a captain? I hope Duke learns a lesson from this, especially the coaching staff. I want to say a whole lot more; however, I am certain it would not be allowed. Grayson, we need you again. I heard that you had been considering transferring. I hope you will stay and that you will be given a real chance to lead this program moving forward.

Honestly, this makes me super PO’d in the context of his unwillingness to run or step into the pocket. Idk if the dude is afraid of getting hit or not. But it certainly feels now like he wasn’t willing to take any shots bc he didn’t want to risk his ability to transfer

I will miss the Maalik we got in the second half of our games. I will not miss at all the Maalik we got in the first half of our games

Get a dual-threat QB in the portal

SMU has zero need for this individual. Jennings is going nowhere. Relatedly, I wouldn’t mind seeing Preston Stone come to Duke and compete for the starting job, though.

Maybe he *was* flipping off the home stands after all.

Well I am pretty surprised, and I bet the staff is too. The way this season unfolded, it was clear the staff went all in on Murphy's development, down to making him a starter as a sophomore and never benching him despite some tough moments. It was clear they considered him the future.

These days, we shouldn't be shocked by anyone transferring, least not a QB with his kind of pedigree. But still, I think the staff would have done some things differently if they thought this was coming.

The game is more nakedly transactional now. He may have used us to get a bag, but we got a TD record season out of it along with 9 wins. I suppose you have to accept it, however unsatisfying.
