Look, the Cover 2 Pod has two insightful folks on it. Those are Bud and Tom Rinaldi. Chip is complete filler (not just saying that bc he’s a UNC alum). Bud does have real insight and genuine connections it appears in the CFB world. Honestly, he is a believable and trustworthy source in my experience. That said, he did make Duke -5.5 season win total one of, if not his biggest, lock of the year call. And he has made many comments on how he doesn’t think we’re good despite our record, which I think are biased by his open disdain for the ACC (given his status as an extremely, extremely proud FSU alum). But if Bud is saying this, I believe itFound the below thread from one of the (non-Duke) 247 guys re: Murphy. Interesting if true.
Figure out if Duke is a AA or AAA program, and money ball that to death, accepting our role as minor league, until no one shows up or watches us at all streaming, along with 65% of the colleges in the country....and we're down to just 50 or 60 teams in CFB. And hope we can "Butler" our way to CBB relevance all the while.I have no idea what the best approach will be best for Duke in building teams every year, but trust our collective has some smart people working on literal and figurative game plans.
Duke has more money to spend than you imply.Figure out if Duke is a AA or AAA program, and money ball that to death, accepting our role as minor league, until no one shows up or watches us at all streaming, along with 65% of the colleges in the country....and we're down to just 50 or 60 teams in CFB. Curious if I go back and look at last year’s Riley Leonard thread if there is this much disillusion and animosity. But looks like we have a plan. So that’s good.

Last year I did not say I was done with college football and this year I am not saying I am done with college football so I will see you next year.I'm interested -- but not enough to research it myself -- in learning if the people who said they were done with college football last year stuck to their resolution, or came crawling back.
Yes there was.Curious if I go back and look at last year’s Riley Leonard thread if there is this much disillusion and animosity. But looks like we have a plan. So that’s good.
If you want case studies ... I announced years ago I was through with college basketball. This was some time after the NCAA announced it was powerless to impose any penalties at all on the cheating bustards down the road. My interest in what was for a long time my favorite spectator sport had been on the wane for quite a while before that, but that was the last straw. I have not watched a single Duke basketball game since then, a span of years that will reach a decade before many more are up.I'm interested -- but not enough to research it myself -- in learning if the people who said they were done with college football last year stuck to their resolution, or came crawling back.
Did you get an increase in your NIL deal?I would like to announce that I am returning to root for Duke football next year
Riley still showed up to practice and games and the bowl game even after he announced his decision. My understanding is he still has friends on the team, is well thought of and is still supportive of Duke football. He made a choice for his own future and given the current environment and getting a 3rd HC and OC chosen for him, he made the choice himself.Knock yourself out: Riley Leonard transfers to Notre Dame
In some ways, there's more disillusionment and animosity last year because the transfer ended Leonard's 3 years of development/cool story/representation of the team and university, and it coincided with Mike Elko's departure.
I'm interested -- but not enough to research it myself -- in learning if the people who said they were done with college football last year stuck to their resolution, or came crawling back.
This may sound like sour grapes but if felt like there were many games this season where we won in spite of Murphy and not because of him. I can recall many in-game threads in which our fans felt it was time to give Loftis or Beilin a chance, particularly after our regular slow starts. We did overperform in winning 9 games and Murphy had some great moments, but I can't help but feel he wasn't worth whatever amount we were paying him.Bud may well be correct about our NIL collective offering a pay cut. Murphy was 11th in Espn's Acc qb rating, so below average and likely the definition of replacement level player. It would be very smart to Moneyball in early years and spend our NIL $ on undervalued assets. Murphy likely may be viewed by random rich guys writing checks as better than his actual onfield performance, so he may be overvalued.
No, it remained nilDid you get an increase in your NIL deal?
That's the same deal I negotiated. No, it remained nil
And then he can make your announcements for you. That's the same deal I negotiated.
We need a better agent.
