2024-25 'I'm not going to jinx it' thread

I don't have a specific game to 'not jinx' at the moment, but since the season is underway and there are a fair number of big games on the docket soon, I thought I would start the thread now so people can find it when they need it.

(For any newbies or anybody not 'in the know,' for several years now we have had this thread. The idea behind it is that, for example, you are watching a game and Georgia is beating Kentucky. You want others to know about it so they can watch, too, but you don't want to jinx the game by writing something obvious, like, 'Hey guys, check it out, Kentucky is losing to Georgia!' So, instead, you post it in code, in this case, maybe something like 'Looks like the dogs are scaring the kittens' [or, it is hoped, something a lot more clever].)

Please don't forget to include the station that is carrying the game, so interested parties can find it more easily.

No, no, no. This thread is NOT necessarily about upsets. So I guess this will be my annual reminder.

In addition to the terrific opening post provided by @rsvman, this is a thread about preserving favorable outcomes. UNC is ranked #9 (for now). For most of the games they play this season, the opponent will be not ranked as highly or not ranked at all, so any Heel loss would indeed be an upset. But for yesterday's game against #1 Kansas, or their SEC-ACC Challenge game on December 4 against #2 Alabama, we are still rooting for a UNC loss, and we'll post something like...

I use Tide detergent to clean smelly socks with those dirty Heels. (ESPN)

...to draw attention to the game that we hope ends with a UNC loss, and not an upset.

Duly noted. I suppose we can safely say that the thread isn't about upsets, it's about being upset if you disturb a certain result.

Adding the channel is always appreciated, so people can get to the game quickly.

So why can’t we just post the information as is and not put it into a riddle? Why are we avoiding the jinx?

This thread originated years ago because standard upset alerts were always a complete failure. The jinx is real, and it loves, loves, loves undesirable outcomes.

Looking at my notes, UNC is undefeated (3,078-0) when someone on DBR posted an upset alert. And every time it happened, it looked something like this...

BlueDevilOnslowCounty: Check it out, the Heels are down by 18 in the first half to ECU! (posted at 7:36pm)
FredGoldsmithFan: Dude, don't jinx it! There's a lot of time left! (posted at 7:39pm)
