2024-25 DWBB Season

Duke instantly loses the lead with a 6-0 GT run
(edit, now tied again)
They run a couple of pick and rolls to start the half to tie it up. Next time, we defended it better.

Both teams want to run to avoid the half court offense; we went to Delaney a couple of times for an open elbow shot which worked.

High quality game on both sides.

That out of bounds play was beautifully run, the only problem is that
1. Oluchi missed the easy layup
2. It took no time off the clock.

Great play, wrong time to run it.
GT having 3 fouls to give meaning 3 more inbounds plays to execute drove that play call. Okanawa makes the wide open layup and it's all moot but she biffed it.

We should move into the top 10, leaping over uNC, Kentucky, Kansas State (all lost last week), Maryland (losers of 3 straight, though to top-12 teams), but probably not TCU (lost by 1 point at 16-3 Oklahoma State).

Hard disagree. If we put the lead to three possessions, the lead is safe with that little time left. Scoring helps a ton in that situation. When Looch missed that shot, I thought I was going to burst a gasket. She won't be more open than that all season. Thank goodness our defense clamped down and we hung on for the win, anyway.

:ROFLMAO:

We took forever to break the "four point wall", and when we finally had 6, all I could see was losing it quickly once again. We are not a good layup team, never have been. I lost count of how many Delaney missed from underneath today. (One of them didn't even get as high as the rim.)
I'd have much rather have seen us take that ball and run, and burn more of the only 30 seconds left off. Instead, we said "Here, GT, you go ahead and see what you can do."

Luckily, they couldn't do much.

We are light years ahead of last year and the year before that. This is a good shooting team overall.
Look at the stats in brevity's preview of this game. Duke is shooting 49.4% on 2-PT FG, which is 80th in D1.
Points in the paint are a strong point for this team and has won us many games already this year.

I've got no qualms with our shooting overall, but I stand by my eyetest look that we miss an unfortunate amount of layups, including uncontested. It's a maddening bee in my bonnet.

I think its a characteristic of women's basketball in general, for whatever reason.
I don't disagree, but if you watch the elite teams, they make those shots far more often. If Duke wants to break back through that ceiling and rejoin the upper echelon, it's something that has to change. Those are not only missed points, but unless we get the rebound it's a borderline turnover. We've made some amazing progress over the past few years, but the misses under the basket have been a frustrating constant.

Yep; ask Boston College how easy it is to inbounds the ball multiple times when you known the opponent is going to foul you on purpose. Generating a wide open layup was a phenomenally well drawn up and well executed play (minus the finish of course).
