2024-25 DWBB Season

Wait what?!? We have an away game AFTER our final home game against uNC?!?

That doesn't make any sense. What the heck? They didn't do that to the men.

So I looked it up, and apparently, the tradition of ending the regular season with a gameagainst Carolina only goes back 20 years on the women's side. I suppose that makes it the subject of slightly less outrage. But I still think it's a bad decision to ruin a good tradition that has existed on the men's side for ages, and makes complete sense on the women's side, as well. That's the game the students come out for.

Sylvia had a game on the schedule after our game often, and I liked that idea. The two week wait (or however long it was) for the ACCT sucked, and it was good for both fans and the team.

But the timing of that last away game is exactly the same as the timing of our last game in most seasons. It's just that the very last game would normally be against the Heels. And it's not the ACCT the women wait for, it's the NCAA tourney. The women have their ACCT a week before the men, so then they need to wait two weeks for the NCAAT, because the women actually start that a day later than the men.

This schedule doesn't change that timing at all.

It may have been after the ACCT that she had those games. Regardless it was both unique and a good idea. (As long as nobody got injured.)

Skinner announces her commitment at 12pm Eastern tomorrow on Instagram. I like our chances! She just visited last weekend! Also, Agot Makeer and Lara Somfai are here this weekend for countdown.

On3's Talia Goodman also likes Duke's chances for a commitment from Emilee Skinner, predicting the Blue Devils over other finalists Iowa, Notre Dame, TCU, and UCLA.

Goodman links to this paywall article, which I can't access, but this thread in UCLA message board BruinReport says Goodman is about 70 percent confident. Take that for what it's worth.

Skinner's announcement will stream live at noon ET on her Instagram page @emileeskinner1 as well as @sportscenternext.

I love big point guards (she's 6-0), maybe more than any other type at any other position.

Announcement at noon Eastern, ND is the only other school with Duke in the time zone and I doubt she wants to be behind Hidalgo for 2 years. Visited last week and cancelled other visits, sure looks like Duke.

This will be a huge get, the 3rd in 3 years (Jadyn, Toby) and maybe the most important. It all starts with the point guard. Ashlon, Oluchi, et. al. aren't slobs either. DWBB is looking very good for the future.

Duke will have 3 scholarships available. Currently 16 on the roster, 2 walk-ons and Vanessa is a Grad and Reigan is a Senior. Getting Agot Makeer and Lara Somfai would make this a monster class. These 2 are visiting this weekend, Emilee's timing will be perfect. Which is important with a point guard. 😁

I've seen her listed variously as a point guard, shooting guard, and combo guard. I wonder what she'll be if she comes to Duke. I'd certainly love to find out!

espn had PG, that's what I went by. Probably grew up a PG, and grew! :) We'll know in 20 minutes!

YES!!! Welcome Emilee!

Talia Goodman had her story ready:

Emilee Skinner, On3’s No. 5 women’s basketball recruit in the Class of 2025, has committed to the Duke Blue Devils, she told On3.

Skinner, a 6-foot point guard from Millville (Utah) Ridgeline, chose Duke over Iowa, TCU, Notre Dame and UCLA after taking an official visit last weekend.

Fortunately the news came quickly, because all I got from the two Instagram accounts was this:

Yeah, I tried to find a livestream also with no luck. How about this:

So I'm wondering if the timing is so she could have some influence on Agot and Lara. I'm sure they'd like to know they'll be playing with a top-notch point/combo guard for 4 years.

Agot down to Duke, UConn, Kentucky, Michigan State, uNC, and South Carolina.
Lara down to Duke, UConn, and Stanford.

More on Emilee with some new tidbits, including some words from her coach about being a team player.

She shot 86% from the free-throw line, 43% percent from 3-point range and 59% from the field. She made 20 more 3-pointers her junior year than her sophomore year.

She has started every game since her freshman season and will look to lead Ridgeline to a three-peat this upcoming season.
