DEFENSE
dRtg: 1.105 (bad; 0.936 adj., second half of D1, not where we want to be)

stl%: 6.7% (terrible)
blk%: 1.9% (horrible - I did not leave out a digit)
fast break pts: 5 (5.1%) (excellent - best thing about our defense)
Not surprisingly about a game that ended 109-99, there was a lot to like about our offense, and not a lot to like about the defense. Reigan could not miss in this one, and especially didn't miss (at all) in the overtime. We also got to the free throw line a lot (but so did they), and when we got there, we hit them at a 78% clip, which was a significant improvement on our season average, and better than our opponents managed (65%), a +3 point differential. Ashlon Jackson's heave-ho from about 65 feet to end the third frame turned out to be crucial, since they did something similar at the end of regulation to tie things up and send it to OT. We also were able to run our fast break often, such as one sequence when Jordan Wood poked the ball to a team mate, and broke the length of the floor to hit the layup at the other end on a couple of quick up-court passes. Their heftier players could bully us, but only when they could catch us.
On defense, in contrast, we were able to stay in front of them, so even though they liked to shoot quickly, we were often there to slow them down just enough. On the other hand, they moved the ball expertly, and I would be agonizing about their monumental assist rate and outstanding EFG, except that somehow, we did even better at both. We set a team record for assists in a game at 38. Weirdly, exactly the same number of fouls were called on both teams, although that include Taina's well-earned technical, so they were actually called for one more foul in open play. The F1 on Fournier was a little absurd, given what happened in the men's game the night before, but OK. That's nitpicky. The refs did not decide the outcome, despite how close the score was. These were just two evenly-matched teams going toe-to-toe, and we just happened to come out on top.
That was a fun game. In case you haven't seen it, the replay is
available on YouTube here. Note that it does start about three minutes in.
